The recent dreamcast threads on here have been fun, so I decided to start a new one where we share some of our hopes for future revivals. I for one would love to see a Thoroughly Modern Millie revival with Alexandra Silber or Phillipa Soo.
-- Audra MacDonald in MAME, with either Jenifer Lewis or Megan Mullally as Vera
-- Hugh Jackman in My Fair Lady. Aint gonna happen, but I would prefer him to anyone else who has been mentioned. His handsome ruggedness would probably add another dimension to it. Not that it needs one, but why not?
-- Nathan Lane in The Producers (this is my pipe dream, after all. I would love to see one of the greatest performers in Broadway history in his signature role again)
-- Daniel Radcliffe or Brendon Urie in Half a Sixpence (because that may be the only way it'd get produced and I would love to see a full-scale revival of a show I absolutely loved)
-- (Idea from another post) Kelly O'Hara and James Marsden in a revisal of Bells Are Ringing. But The Midas Touch has to go, and the title song needs to be re-written to set the show up more as a fairly tale of a long ago and gentler time.
-- Urinetown with Donald Trump as the urinal...er, I mean Mr. Cladwell. I know he couldn't sing the role, but we'd get him out of DC and he'd otherwise be perfect. Maybe Ivanka could play Hope and Tiffany could play Little Sally. Jr. could be Officer Lockstock (he could lip synch). And they could certainly find a role as one of the special needs townspeople to Eric. Problem: no one to play Bobby...casting would be too much of a stretch against type. Thinking further, I think they should try to write the role of a urinal into the show, so Trump can play it in a Story Theatre type of way.
CorkySt.Clair said: "^I love these threads too! I know they may sound pointless, but it's really fun to imagine. A few I've thought of recently...
Ben Platt as Younger Brother in Ragtime
Bernadette and/or Joanna Gleason as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd
Raúl Esparza as Pierre in Great Comet (never gonna happen but I'd DIE to see it)
Laura Benanti as Amy in Company
Daveed Diggs as Harold Hill in the Music Man
Daveed Diggs is an incredible idea; I am not sure the I can ever see another production of The Music Man, but what great casting he would be. (I do not dislike TMM. I have just seen it too many times, thanks to an overactive fondness for the movie when I was younger, and I really don't enjoy those barbershop quartet and quasi-Rap numbers...of course, someone like Diggs in the lead would demand re-thinking ways to make the show as effervescent as he is. It will be interesting to see if anyone comes up with as brilliant an idea as this one.
^Yeah, the casting is the only thing that really jazzed me about that particular show. The first show I was obsessed with was West Side Story, so I held a pretty strong grudge and TMM that unfortunately still holds me to this day :P. But Diggs in it *might* make me rethink my biases. It has thus far been the only thing to make TMM sound interesting to me.
2. The Drowsy Chaperone with Laura Bennati as the Chaperone, Andy Karl as Aldolpho, and Jefferson Mays as Man in Chair"
Speaking of Chaperone, whatever happened to the movie in which it was rumored that Streisand was to play the chaperone? Anne Hathaway, Geoffrey Rush and Hugh Jackman were rounding out the cast, and the director was Fred Schepisi. Shepisi announced this three years ago, and was supposed to star filming within a year...and nothing?
As he gets a little older maybe, a Josh Groban-led Man of La Mancha. Like his rendition of Dulcinea and would love to hear him sing The Impossible Dream.
Already been done (in concert version), but Laura Osnes and Tony Yazbeck in the upcoming full scale revival of Crazy For You. Seeing it in LA next year in its Stroman-led, pre-Broadway revival, and would love to hear those two announced as the leads.
A Little Night Music: Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews
Funny Girl: Lea Michele (Fanny Brice...Come on already!!!)
My Fair Lady: Julie Andrews (Mrs. Higgins)
Carousel: Cheyenne Jackson (Billy)
..... Also I've always thought it would be cool to do a Follies revival (even as a fundraising event) with a bunch of legends like Cher, Bette Midler, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger... kind of like that DIVAS fundraiser they had years ago
