I had the chance to see this musical yesterday, and Thank God I did . One of the best experiences I have had in the theater in a very long time - from start to finish. Thank You all for recommending this over the summer,
The friend I attended with has a friend in the cast (not an ensemble member but one of the main cast). The actor was able to 'put our name on the stage door list' and we met the actor briefly after the show (this was all a surprise to me, as my friend didn't know if we were going to be on the list till early yesterday afternoon).
What I can report (from the actor's lips to my ears) is that the mood backstage has turned very 'gloomy' since last week; everyone is worried. There was a mandatory meeting for all involved with the production being held last night at 7 (which this actor had to go to, instead of joining us for dinner as my friend invited this person) and they were hoping they would find out the future of the show and put the rumors and worries to rest. The actor expected that there would be an announcement early this week on the show's future.
After seeing this show, it would be quite a shame if this show closes down. Such a talented cast out of work.

I imagine if the meeting was a mandatory one after the show then it must not be great news. It sounds like we will get a closing notice soon

Eh I'd think a mandatory meeting would be pretty standard after something huge like this has gone down. Considering a big part of this is that cast members have felt like things have gone on behind their backs, it's definitely the right idea to get everyone together and explain the situation whether that's a recasting or closing.

I tend to think Dave Malloy knows what the verdict is by now. And that tweet he sent earlier will undoubtedly get that girl's (along with many other fans'
hopes up. I honestly do not think he would've tweeted that if the show was closing this month. Or even Labor Day.
I might be biased, because I adore this show. But I don't think it's over yet.

I had the same initial reaction, that Dave wouldn't knowingly lie when he could have just ignored the post. Who knows though, things can change at any moment.

No, the week is over on the 13th. The 15th is the start of their new week. It's rare for an actor to not leave at the end of a week. I believe the first release had a typo.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

As of last week telecharge still had the 15th as her final day, although the box office confirmed to me it's the 13th. They really screwed up that that initial press release

It does happen. Two actors left "Hamilton" before the end of a week. Daveed Diggs, notably. It wasn't calling out; he was done.

If the cast had been informed of a closing date last night, a press release would have gone out already OR the news would have been leaked. No way to keep news like that confidential.
My guess is the producers we're holding the meeting to try to assure the company that they would not be closing YET, and that they have a plan. (Or at least are pretending to have a plan.)

That meeting had to have been Sunday night. They're dark on Mondays. So if the person who posted is telling the truth it would have to be for Sunday. Which makes sense. Show is at 3 on Sunday so a 7pm meeting would be about right

Because he was HORRIBLE in the otherwise fairly good West End revival of "Guys and Dolls" (the rest of the cast was formidable: Jane Krakowski as Adelaide, Douglas Hodge as Nathan and Jenna Russell as Sarah).
Honestly he was so bad he soured me on his film performances for years after.

No, all that means is that when the contest was arranged, it was assumed it would still be opened.

I am the poster, and yes - I'm telling the truth. I attended the Sunday matinee, and the meeting was on Sunday night at 7 pm, which is why this actor could not join us for dinner after the show. (I had a 100 questions lined up if this person could! LOL). I submitted this original message on Monday evening (meaning 'last night' was Sunday) but it didn't post right away.

My friend was completely out of the loop on what was going on, as she's so busy with her own work schedule (she's a vocal coach / teacher). I filled her in on the week's drama when we met for coffee before the show - to which she said "aaahhh...that may be why [actor] took so long to respond to my text messages this past week. No one has heard from [actor]."
I don't think she has talked to this actor since Sunday before the meeting, so it would be useless to pump my friend for more info. I'm sure if she knew anything she'd have text me - as I dropped a hint more than once about wanting the 'scoop' on the drama! LOL - so I'm really trying!!!
BTW, this friend of mine is a POC. When I explained the week's history to her, she didn't believe it was a 'racial move' at all - she saw it as 'business'. She has worked closely with the theater community over the past three decades, and as she said - this (unfortunately) happens frequently; replacing a main cast member with a 'bigger name' to give the show a longer life. It rarely gets this kind of publicity.
