Why is Christian Borle Bald?

What is the reason that Christian is bald for the show? In all the promo I've seen, it appears that his Wonka has hair underneath the hat. Is there a show plot point that requires him to be bald? (I also think in their "100th show" photos, he actually has some hair, so maybe this has changed?) Would love some info.

He says it's for the wigs (which really doesn't make sense) but most likely it's just to creep us out.

I will say that it makes it cooler and u sweat less bald then with hair-raising but it looks creepy and he doesn't look good bald.

He publicly stated that as the reason, so the wigs fit flawlessly.  But, it seems he has loosened that rule a bit.

Emma Pfaeffle, who plays Veruca Salt, talked about it once in a video (it may have been a live on, so it doesn't exist anymore, and she said that Borle chose to shave his head to save time. I think they calculated that in a 1-year run, he would have spent something like 9 full days in the hair chair to get his fair in a cap, and then the second cap over it that is mostly bald but with some hair under it (what you see sticking out under the hat). If I could link the video, I would, but I think it was live.
