Does anyone remember the theatre gift shop that used to be located on the street level near the entrance/exit to the Marriot Marquis hotel? I bought several theatre window cards and souvenir programs from various Broadway shows over the years in that gift shop. Now that the store is no longer there, does anyone know of any gift shops/stores located in the Times Square area that sell window cards, souvenir programs and theatre merchandise to current and past Broadway shows?
I loved that shop at the Marriott. Outside of One Shubert Alley and the other place on 44th across from the Majesric, there is Triton Gallery. They just moved to their new location on 8th Ave right in the theater district. I was there a few weeks ago to get a window card.
That was one of my favorite stores! I never made a trip to NYC without visiting that store. They had the best selection of window cards and souvenir programs to old Broadway shows. I was disappointed to see that it was gone.
There is nothing you can get at these gift shops that you cannot buy online and for a cheaper price.
If you are determined to see items in person and buy, there is:
- gift shop on 44th st between Broadway and 8th (next to Johns Pizza, across from Phantom)
- gift shop in Shubert Alley between 44th and 45th streets between Broadway and 8th between HELLO DOLLY and Juniors
- Drama Book Shop on 40th between Broadway and 8th
- Signature Theatre Center on 42nd and 10th has a gift shop in its lobby/cafe area
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
