Cythia Erivo

Ashley Park

Couldn't be more bored by the prospect of another pretty white lady playing Eliza.

Ashely Park could be great. Nikki Renee Daniels is another beautiful soprano.

Maybe Jessica Fontana

I agree that Scarlett Strallen would be fantastic, as would Lisa O'Hare from the videos of the Lyric production. TBH I would love for most of that cast to transfer over.

Christy was an interesting mention only because she did Camelot at Drury Lane and if she was able to tackle Guinevere then Eliza would certainly be in her range, but my hat tips to O'Hare above all others

I don't think age really plays much point into the show, so I don't see what all the fuss is about. I'd love to see all the ladies mentioned. It just depends on what kind of comment they want the casting to reflect. They're currently doing a My Fair Lady in Maryland with a black Eliza and a very young, handsome Higgins. It's def sexier than most productions I've seen.

I LOVE the idea of Betsy Wolfe. I had no idea until just now that she wasn't in her 20s, she can easily play that young. However, when was the last time a soprano woman of color had a lead role other than Audra? It's the perfect opportunity to cast Denee or Ashley Park.

I would love it if we got either Laura Benanti and Kevin Kline or Ashley Park and Benedict Cumberbatch.  That would be ideal casting for me.  I probably won't get to see either of these parrings, but a girl can dream.

Hopefully we'll get Danny Burstein as Alfred Dolittle, Mary Beth Peil as Mama Higgins and Bryce Pinkham as Freddie.

Also, Jefferson Mays would make an exceptional Pickering.  Or Higgins for that matter.

Am I missing something? Denée has a lead role as we speak. And Phillipa Soo in Amélie etc.

I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but what about Emily Padgett?

I just can't see Bartlett Sher and Lincoln Center Theater doing anything as risky as casting an African American as a London Cockney. This is a mainstream production to be seen by tourists from all over the country and then taken to tour the country. It's not that we are better than people from Nebraska, it's just that they're not used to it. Ticket are expensive and they don't want surprises.

LCT can always cover itself by reminding that they cast Asians in all Asian roles in The King and I.

Just saying.

I still stand by my earlier suggestion of Ashley Park. She has lovely comedic timing, the quirk Eliza needs, and the soprano voice. Plus, she's worked with Sher before and performed at the concert in his honor mentioned earlier in the thread. I'd love to see her do it with Matt Smith as Higgins (or really anyone, but he's who I keep coming back to in my head).

I haven't been following this thread too closely, but I know Laura Benanti's name has come up for this... and now her role on Supergirl has been recast: http://tvline.com/2017/07/07/supergirl-spoilers-erica-durance-season-3-recast-laura-benanti/

Quote from the show's EP:

“Unfortunately Laura, who Greg [Berlanti] and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in [New York].”

Make of that what you will.

Her role on Supergirl never seemed that time consuming, so I'd say it's safe to assume this happened because of a theater commitment. I think it is more likely owing to her rumored/almost confirmed participation with the new Steve Martin play alongside Amy Schumer, though.

Wasn't she also rumored to be doing a play with Amy Schumer?

Bummer! I was kind of hoping she would do "My Fair Lady." I don't know. I mean, a newcomer would be nice, but I'd like to see a seasoned pro take a stab at the role.

More likely to be the play with Amy Schumer that her name has actually been attached to.

"I'm from Mississippi and currently live in Alabama. I really think that this show isn't very touristy- the tourists with no real interest in theatre are the ones that would be opposed to colorblind casting, and they'll continue to stick to Wicked and Phantom.

At this point, Sierra Boggess is the front runner.

Snore.

Also, source?

I'm not at liberty to reveal my source, but I work closely with LCT. Hopefully we won't be subjected to your snoring, should you decide to honour us with your presence.

I might be part of a minority on this, but I also think Sierra Boggess would nail the role. Phillipa Soo remains my top choice, but I'd be thrilled with Boggess as well.

Ok.  I'm sure she'll be great, but I was hoping for a more inspired choice.  Sher is a brilliant director so I'm sure the production won't make me snore.  Can you tell us who else is in the running?  We're dying from anticipation out here!

"Totally agree...Sierra Boggess can certainly sing it but she can't act it! She's 35...still would love Laura Benanti who's just 37...now she can sing it and certainly act it!

I like the idea of Sierra! When do you think we will officially find out who is cast?
