It seems that some people attempted to try and shut down tonight's performance by storming the stage.

This horrifying.  Hopefully they amp up the security and make sure the cast and crew make it home safely.

Also, it sure is hilarious to see Trump supporters calling people Nazis.  Maybe they should do some nice self reflection.

Donald Trump and his supporters are truly deplorable.

Now living in DC. I really have to change my name on the board.

They're lucky Patti Lupone wasn't in this production.  She would've whooped some deplorable ass.

Well that was boring. Was at least looking forward to seeing security tackle someone.

I am actually concerned about LuPone, whose comments about Trump on the Tonys red carpet have gotten picked up by a few conservative blogs (including Breitbart), with the expected blowback. I wouldn't be very surprised if there was some display at/outside of War Paint in the. War future.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I wouldn't worry about Patti. What are they going to do, boycott? Trump supporters obviously don't go to the theatre anyway, protests aside.

To protest, Trump supporters will probably paint themselves in Arden makeup and pay full price to see the show while they chat to each other on Grindr.

I want to know where these people were earlier in the run. Like it closes in 2 days. Why protest now?

If there was a protest at War Paint, I envision Patti going right out there herself and putting a stop to it. I don't think these right-wingers know quite who they're dealing with in Ms. Lupone.

My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."

I was there tonight. These two losers were booted out in 3 minutes tops. Then when the stage manager came over the PA system and said, "Let's take it from Liberty!" The audience started cheering and we gave a standing ovation.

Live theatre is special. And don't forget, Trump once said the theatre should be a safe space, after Mike Pence got booed at Hamilton.

So, **** off, protesters.

Ok, so I completely disagree with the protesters and find their actions deplorable, and like most Trump protesters, I think they are disgraces to the human race.

HOWEVER, I think there's something kind of fascinating and strangely fitting about this happening here. I mean, this is the free, "for the people" theatre. Eustis is clearly a proponent of this idea of theatre being a public political forum - I mean for God's sake, he literally staged the funeral scene as if the audience were disrupting the show, just like these patrons did. This incident almost harkens back to the old days of Shakespeare, when the audience shouted and responded to what was happening on the stage. I don't know, as infuriating as it is, I think there's something strangely beautiful about it.

A new development: Andrew Kober (who was in the Hair Revival, Les Mis, She Loves Me, SITPWG..) got one of the disrupters to agree to debate with him on periscope next week. I doubt it'll happen, but if it does it'll be interesting to see. I follow Andrew on twitter and he's an incredibly intelligent/polite/fair person, and has been defending the production for a while now. I doubt he'll be able to actually change anyone's mindset, but it'll be quite a debate if it happens.

God. I both love and loathe this whole episode. I'm glad Shakespeare is still causing drama and fallouts after all these centuries but these right-winged-snowflakes need to take save seats. Personally, if I saw a production of Jesus Christ Superstar with a Jeremy Corbyn-type as Jesus I'd absolutely love it!

When I first heard this, I just mentally *headdesked* probably the hardest I ever have since this whole 45 charade began back in 2015 when he first threw his hat in the ring. These same people claim we have no idea what WE'RE protesting and yet they protest something they literally haven't read or have any contextual idea about?? And let's be honest this is mostly true. The vast majority of the further right realm has no idea of what art comprehension is, they don't understand context so they take everything at face value, they've never read a Bard play and if they did it was back in high school and they thought it was boring so they quickly put it out of their minds, and many have at the very least a mild disdain for art unless it's merely to "entertain" them so how often do they really go to a theater to truly learn anything profound? I'm slightly left of center these days and I see plenty of left hypocrisy also, but good grief the right is just driving me UP THE DAMN WALL with their lack of real comprehension skills these days...

And funny Patti in mentioned...a friend of mine was at War Paint last night and indeed, some crazy guy went all MAGA at her at the stage door. So yeah, it already happened. Not it's going to make national headlines, but it happened.

And when thr show ends its scheduled limited run in just a few days, the protesters will proclaim they shut down the production.

To stage that show in a free public venue given the existing national temperament was irresponsible. Delta Airlines and Bank of America were the first to withdraw funding.

It's not a stretch that the performances could lead to another Trump opponent to go out hunting for Republican politicians. The veneer of civilization that suppresses most violent acts in this country is thinner than you think.

If leaders had known the bloody butchery into which the Civil War would develop, there would have been no Civil War. It was inconceivable to them that Americans against Americans could kill with such brutality. The veneer had been penetrated.

We are already almost through the first year of Trump. Democrats will make large gains in Congress next year and Trump will just be a loud and lazy lame duck.

And now, Shakespeare companies all over the country are getting hate mail.  Because Trump supporters are just THAT stupid.

I assume she just stared at the guy and walked away, but I'm not surprised to hear something happened. (I AM surprised that someone who I assume was not previously her fan recognized her at the stage door though!)

Apparently her reponse was something like "Not in my world, sweetie!". My friend was apparently so thrown by it that he didn't hear properly, but that's what it sounded like to him lolz!

And my guess is said "MAGA guest" only knew who she was from the recent video of her bashing him at the Tonys. Let's be real.
