Good morning all,
I usually don't post things like this, but here goes. I've just committed to the Avon 39, a 39.3 mile walk over 2 days in NYC in October. In order to participate, I need to raise $1,800 in donations before the event. Please consider making a donation via my personal page at the link below. Thanks!

Bumping this thread, with a reminder of what it's about. Avon 39 is a fundraiser for the fight against breast cancer. It's a 39 mile walk over 2 days in NYC in October. Is Avon one of the more corrupt organizations? Or am I thinking of someone else? Sorry for mentioning this if I am completely wrong.

Wow, what a despicable thing to do. To write an unfounded comment like that, when I am reaching out for donations to fight breast cancer is beyond the pale. You should be ashamed of yourself.

2017 has been a year of many firsts for me. So far, I have:
- Lost 125 pounds (2016/2017)
- Hiked to the summit of Haystack Mountain in Vermont
- Completed a 5 mile run in 44:40
- Completed a 5k run in 27:17
- Gone zip lining (see profile pic)
I'd like to add the Avon 39 to this list. It's a fundraiser for the fight against breast cancer, a 39 mile walk over 2 days in NYC in October. I have registered for the walk, however in order to participate, I need to reach a very aggressive donation requirement of $1,800. If you'd like to help me reach this goal, as well as contribute to this worthy cause, please make a donation via the link below.

Congrats on all your accomplishments!
How far/close are you to your goal? I've already donated, but I'm just curious. Rooting for you!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks for the donation, and for the kind words! I'm about halfway to my goal, with almost 2 months until the event. So, no reason to panic quite yet, but the folks at Avon encourage us to be persistent.

Yes, the walk was the weekend of 10/14 & 10/15. I completed the 39 miles in just over 10 hours. It took 7 hours to walk the 26.2 miles on day one, and just over 3 hours to complete the 13.1 miles on day two. My fundraising total was $2,414 and the total for the NYC event was $6.4 million. I am very grateful to those who supported me.
The experience itself was incredible. My immediate family has not been directly impacted by breast cancer, but I walked so my 3 daughters might not ever have to. That said, I was very mindful that I was surrounded by survivors, as well as family and friends of those who did not survive. It was very difficult to watch some of those women break down emotionally upon completing the walk.
