Hello Dolly seating advice

Hi, I'm not familiar with the theater and would appreciate any advice.  Assuming my max per ticket is approx $200, what is the best seat choice: box seat, side front orch, back center orch or front mez? (Would rather pay less if anyone can recommend a good, less expensive seat/section.)  Thanks so much!

Box seats are partial view, although the price doesn't reflect that. If you sit there, you won't be able to see 1/3 of the stage. Of the choices you list, I'd go with front mezz or rear center orch., then side front orch.

Hi! Sorry if this post is in the wrong thread...I'm fairly new here. How about mezzanine vs. balcony seating? How much difference is there between say, mid-mezz seating and front balcony seating? I've only been to a few broadway shows so I don't really know how they compare. I'm hoping to see Dolly with Donna when I visit in November. The cheaper balcony seats are tempting...Thank you!

I'd recommend using A View From My Seat. Front Balcony has excellent view but it's honestly nosebleed seats because it is HIGH. Definitely not something I'd recommend for anyone who has vertigo issues. That being said, if you get genuine front balcony - go for it. I haven't seen the show from mezz yet so can't comment.

The balcony overhangs the mezzanine at row C, so as you go further back, the mezzanine can be problematic. I sat in the front row center mezzanine, and the view was perfection. Do yourself a favor, use the discount on telechargeoffers.com, and get a front row (or first few rows) mezzanine seat for $99.

We sat in the second row of balcony right side. I saw and heard perfectly for $100 + fees. I was absolutely shocked how good the vision and sound was- probably better than rear orchestra or mezzanine. I always try to sit up close in the orchestra when available. But these seats at the front of the balcony were great. Unfortunately the foot room is not

I've seen the show twice both times from the orchestra. Honestly, both times in the orchestra were phenomenal and I think either way orchestra or front mezzanine will be great. First time side row J and second time Center Row F. Obviously Row F was incredible and that was half off with Donna Murphy. Phenomenal show--enjoy!

Saw Donna in Dolly from Row E of the Balcony this week. First time in Balcony. Not great but not bad. Steep view and you do have sit forward, from that row and on back to Row J, if you want to see the runway around the orchestra. Maybe the first few rows of the Balcony are better than further back. Maybe you don't have to sit forward to see the ramp. Not sure. Didn't check that out. Sound was fine. 

TDF put me in the back of the Mezz yesterday. Row J. Far left. At first I was disappointed because TDF had said that all seating would be in the Balcony- and I thought the Balcony is better than the Rear Mezz because you don't have that awful overhang of the Balcony over you. Turns out they weren't that bad. You could see the ramp full and I didn't miss anything far left and I was the last seat over in the row. Of course, you miss Cornelius and Barnaby's brief scene on top of the store and you have to scrunch down in your seat to see all of Dolly's entrance down the stairs in the title number. Other than that there is just the annoyance of not seeing the full stage picture. You're getting 3/4 of it. You don't see the top of the stage. When the curtain goes up in the beginning you see the "year" but not "New York City" above it. My friends, however, who hadn't seen a show in ages, adored the show from start to finish so mission was accomplished! The only way I would recommend the Mezz is if you're in the first 3 rows. Other than that, the Balcony overhang is a problem, at least for me. Also, at the standing ovation at the end you had to squat if you wanted to see the stage at all. 

I stood in the back of the Orchestra waiting for my friends after the show was over and noticed that even the Standing Room area could be problematic with the Mezz overhang. As I stood there I could see the show curtain saying "Dolly!" but not the "Hello" over it. The back of the Orch also has that Mezz overhang problem. You're not actually missing much, it's just not a full view of the stage picture. It's just the way the Shubert is. When I saw War Paint recently I was in the Front Mezz and it was great. The Rear Mezz is right behind and also offers a fine view as well. It's just fully open up there where as if there is two levels in a theatre than you have to watch out for those overhangs.

As someone said here, my best viewings for Dolly were, of course, 1st 10 rows Orch Center and Left and Right is fine as long as you're not down front in the Orch on the side. That's where obstructions start.

I sat in the last row of the orchestra, and the only thing you can't see from there is the brief moment where Barnaby and Cornelius are at the top of the store for a few seconds. Otherwise, it's fine.

I'm sitting in Orchestra Row J - Seat 12. Looks like it'll offer a great view (it should - I paid more than I paid for concierge prices for OBC of Hamilton two years ago). Wondering about legroom though? I'm a tall guy with knee issues. Usually get aisle seats, but as I recall this was best seat I could afford when I booked. Can anyone tell me about legroom in the Orchestra? I'd just like to be able to stretch my left knee once in awhile.

Your seat will be great. Should offer a fine view.  But I think you will have leg room issues at the Shubert if you're tall and you're not on an aisle. I was with a tall person yesterday and he was in the middle of the row and he kind of shifted his knees into the gap of the seats in front of him! I think he was OK, he didn't complain, and he loved the show but it's just an issue with tall people in these old theatres. I have another tall friend who always has leg issues if he's not on an aisle in most of these old theatres.

Thanks! I'll survive. One of my most uncomfortable experiences turned out to be my favorite Broadway experience - nosebleed (last row) of rear Mezzanine for OBC of Hamilton. I was in constant pain, but the show was so phenomenal, it was worth it. It's the only time I've seen Hamilton. I hope to see it again one day from a better seat.

Trying to buy Bernadette tickets and I am looking at the center aisle seat of Right Front Row Mezz, so A2. I read some reports that there is a big bar in front of that seat. I'm a tall guy so I'm wondering if it would obstruct much. I'm also looking at Center Aisle Row F2  in mezz or just going to the balcony for Row D seat 2 for $59 or end of Row G seat 28 for $39. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Just get any seat you can afford. The show I'd beyond sensational that you'll enjoy it wherever you sit. I've been all over the place for this show and I've never had cause to complain.

Mezzanie is great.  But no need to hurry.  Plenty of availability.    Make sure to get a discount seat.  Plenty available for Bernadette or what remains of Donna evenings.  I get to see Bette again and I can't wait.

Here are a pic of the bar that people are referring to at the ends of the aisles in the mezzanine. I'm short, so it would be a dealbreaker for me, but you might be able to get away with it. Personally, of the other choices, I would probably go with F 2, although D 2 in the balcony would be decent, for the price. G 28 is the one I wouldn't recommend.

Thanks Dolly. I have seen the show and paid full price for that. Loved Bette and the show so much, so of course want to go back for Bernadette. Smokey, yes I am using the discount and trying to decide with that. Thanks for the help CT2NYC. Might just go with Row F of Mezz since it is $99, about $30 cheaper than front row mezz and don't have to stress about the bar.

So I know this has been asked on here before, but I have tickets for tonight but we’re flying in and our flight just got delayed. If we bring our carryons with us will they let us bring them in and coat check them at the Shubert?

i sat on that exact seat! It was my second time seeing it and the bar was most definitely there, but it didn’t trouble me too much. I was able to look around it easily enough. I am 5’7”, so if you are taller it will be less of an issue.
