Carolee Carmello and Norm Lewis begin performances tonight!  I know there is a revival thread already (Hi Lizzie!) but thought these 2 stars deserved their own. Anyone going? Please report back. Seeing them in May and beyond excited.

Not going until next week.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Was anyone there tonight?  I heard that an understudy came on mid-performance.

I wasn't, but I know someone who was and they said that Norm got sick mid-performance and was replaced. Apparently Sondheim was there tonight as well!

I was there tonight! Yes, Norm got sick and his standby David Michael Garry went on for act II. Norm was fantastic, I couldn't tell he was sick until he started completely losing his voice during A Little Priest. David was fantastic as well. Sondheim was there taking notes, he looked like he genuinely enjoyed it. He was laughing a lot at Carolee. Carolee is the perfect Mrs. Lovett. Stacie Bono, the new Beggar Woman/Pirelli, is wonderful, as are Jamie Jackson (the new Judge Turpin) and John Michael Lyles (the new Toby). I'm dying to see it again (and get some pie next time).

Oh no. I have a ticket for tomorrow. I had a funny feeling something like this was going to happen. Fingers crossed that Norm gets some much needed rest and feels better!

For those who have seen it already, I was curious about the partial view seats. Exactly how partial are they? For most dates in June, they seem to be the only things left. On the flip side, anyone who may be checking ticket availability regularly, do full view seats tend to open up ever? Maybe as the performance nears? Carolee is one of my all time favorite performers, and I'm determined to see her in a role I had been dream casting her in for years. Any help would be wonderful! Thanks in advance! :)

EDIT - Checking the site, I saw that dates later this week opened up, and it looks like better seats become available, but I assume due to late notice, they don't give the option of ordering pie and mash. A bit of a bummer, but I'd give up the pie for the chance at a better seat.

Kind of wasting your gift, no? You should be helping the FBI find serial killers...

In my opinion, they are very partial. I missed a lot of the show and I'm pretty tall. I was siting in the second row of the balcony centered. The people in the first row (there are only two) leaned forward the entire time. Even if they didn't lean forward, the view was still extremely obstructed

I sat in the last row of the balcony. I'm pretty short, but I didn't feel like I missed a ton. I'm glad we were warned they'd be limited view. If I'd never seen Sweeney Todd before, I probably would've been a bit lost thanks to a few things I couldn't see, but I still really enjoyed it.

You're sort of at the mercy of the person in front of you. If they're tall or lean forward, the view could be completely obstructed as most of the staging occurs dead center. Luckily when I saw it, there were a few empty spaces in the second row where I was sitting so I could slid around in the bench until I found a decent spot.

How's J5? Worried about seating.

I've been downstairs in the rear counter seats twice and upstairs in the partial view second row once.

It wasn't as bad as I expected being upstairs, but it helped I had the seat right on the aisle so part of my view had no one in the way. The ductwork does result in a partial view of the top of the staircase and you'll miss seeing when the actors are walking along the downstairs aisle between the tables and counters, with one reaction before "A Little Priest" being the key one you'd miss, but if downstairs, that's played so you'd see Sweeney's back if seated at a table anyway. At the time I booked it (I wanted to make sure I saw the UK cast again before they left), it was the only way to get in and I think it was worth it.

They do seem to release tickets about 3-4 days out, that's how I was able to add on another viewing in between my original ticket and the upstairs seat. I'd like to try a table eventually but the counter seats give you a great view of everything.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll probably end up dropping the cash for the best seat I can get, since I'll be in town on a trip, will only get to see it once, and it's at the top of my list of shows to see!

If you go all the way, I recommend C-1. I enjoyed it there on Saturday, heh.

I think I remember reading that they're contracted until sometime in August.

just bumping this as there really hasn't been any reviews with the new cast. This post started with Norm was sick, and then devolved into a seating thread. Anyone have any feedback with the new cast?

For anyone who is interested, the production announced a student rush policy today. One hour prior to the performance for $39. Seeing at most performances as of now mostly show the partial view seats available, I assume those are now being used for rush/lottery?

Hello. What is the source on this information?? Just bought premium tickets for August and am kicking myself for doing so before this policy was announced. Also have been entering the lottery everyday and haven't heard of anyone winning it yet.

I saw it Wednesday. To my surprise, Norm was in and stayed in through the curtain call. He sounded wonderful, but was a bit timid in his acting choices. It seemed to me that his timidness was due to his sickness.

Carmello was FANTASTIC. Not sure what else to say. She was meant to play this part.

It was my first time seeing the show, but the new Turpin, Beggar Woman, and Tobias all seemed very confident and polished in their roles.

I enjoyed the performances. I don't know that the space was utilized to its fullest potential, but there were some wonderful moments.
