Chance of show closing due to weather? #1

Flying in to NYC tonight after rescheduling the flight that was originally for tomorrow morning for fear of it being cancelled (it was) and have tickets to Hamilton tomorrow night. NYC expecting anywhere from 5-12 inches of snow- is this enough to close a show? Hoping not per the show must go on, just being cautious if anyone local can offer piece of mind :)

Usually not, but they did cancel all Broadway shows (including Hamilton) last January. If the subways close down, the shows usually close. It's unlikely but it has happened.

You should be fine...

It should not close anything...

As Neon correctly noted above, the only time to worry is if the subway gets closed...

I think you'll be fine. (And I have Big River tickets tomorrow so am hoping the same!)

Usually the only time they'll stop shows if if the city shuts down the subway system... which only happens in a MASSIVE snowstorm, much more than what we're expected to get tomorrow. I mean, weather's unpredictable, so we may get more snow than they think, but if the predicted snowfall happens, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Enjoy the show!

Usually, the theaters stay open as long as public transportation is running. So keep checking MTA.info to see if there are any plans to close the system in advance.

Of course, if you're here already, that won't make a difference!

smart changing your flight.  The shows usually will go on unless its considered an epic blizzard which I do not think this is.  so far.  The good thing is, there will be canceled seats available that you may be able to score that you would not if it didnt snow.

Based on the current forecast, the chance of a show cancelling is about nil.

Whether or not to cancel a show is never an EASY D.

Eh I didn't have much to add; I pretty much agreed with what everyone else had said. So I thought I'd joke.

2 seconds ago, they called BLIZZARD conditions.  Who knows?  Unless a lot of actors can t get into the city from suburban homes, shows will go on, unless mass transit gets totally ****ed up.  Good luck everybody.  Cook some comfy food!

Hamilton is NOT cancelled for tomorrow night. Unless the Shit really really hits the fan Hamilton is going on with tomorrow nights performance so the OP need not worry.

Are there any snow day discounts announced yet? It's pretty bad out there for those coming in from Long Island or Jersey.

Jut curious:   what is the prediction for how much snow NY is likely to get?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

NYC: 10 - 12 inches

Surrounding areas: 12 - 15+ inches (more possible on Long Island and southern CT)

Right but they report to the Broadway League. If the League says they're closed, they close. That's what happened last year.

I just hope the decision isn't made at 6:45.

Last year we all trudged in during that Jan storm. 10 mins after we were scheduled to report they announced the show was cancelled.

People were already waiting inside the lobby to get in.

Yes I also schlepped to work only to be told to go home. But it really wasn't "Broadway's" fault. I blame the Mayor who knew about the snow prediction at 4am and then decided to cancel mass transit starting at 4 pm with an announcement at 12:45. Obviously you can't have people at matinees who would have no way to get home. Broadway had no choice to be close then.

I am well aware that The Broadway League is the one who makes the final call. Hence me saying if the Shit hits the fan.

Weather certainly didn't help my track record with the Hamilton lottery.  Worth showing up for standing room or cancellation line?

You can always check the "weather alert" item in yellow at the top of the Broadway League's web site.

https://www.broadway.org/

As of this posting, it reads:

WEATHER ALERT 2/9/17 8:45AM

AS OF NOW, ALL SHOWS ON BROADWAY WILL PLAY AS SCHEDULED. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES. FOR INFO ABOUT EXCHANGES, CONTACT YOUR POINT-OF-PURCHASE.

Did the Hamilton ticket owners last year get screwed out of seeing the show altogether since there were no available tickets to replace the cancelled ones with?

They were rescheduled for 10 months later. So, sort of.
