I thought Malloy was wonderful.  I haven't seen the new cast yet, however, so I'm disinclined to make any comparisons.  I can only hope Groban is just as good.

why would he? Dave is only taking over for select performances, he isn't replacing Stangland's capacity as a standby Pierre

I'm really curious what route they go in replacing Groban come July (give it to Stangland or try to find another star).

Do we know for sure he's leaving in July? I think all that's been announced is that he'll be there until July, not necessarily that he won't be there after that. I've heard rumors (here, I think?) that he has actually made a one-year commitment to the show.

They are calling the new block of tickets an "extension," so it doesn't sound like he was signed for a year...

The reports seem pretty clear that Josh is only on through July 2. It does seem strange that with tickets now on sale through September it is unclear who will take the role of Pierre -- Dave, Scott, or some new person.

Eight months should be plenty of time for them to identify a suitable replacement, especially if they're seeking someone of Groban's stature.

Beyond the accordion and piano aspects of the role, Pierre is pretty easy and not nearly as physically demanding as basically any other role in the show. It shouldn't be that hard for them to find someone with Groban's pull for the part.

Ryan Gosling would be a good fit- he plays those instruments and sings in his band/concept album "Dead Man's Bones."

This will be a mad week/weekend I believe for Dave and the show. I'm so glad we decided to grab tix for Dave last week, before the Tony noms.

As if this incredible endlessly energetic cast and ensemble needed any more reasons to be in "hyper" mode, it should be interesting to see what happens at the Imperial this week. We are going on 5/6 too.

Well, Groban and Malloy are so totally different, I think you'd very easily be able to draw comparisons.
