President Trump: The Coming Impeachment |
Let's just say he is brought up for impeachment. Do you really think that the Republican controlled House is actually going to vote to do that?
There is talk among the conservative wing of the GOP, which never wanted him to be their candidate, that he is a ticking time bomb of high crimes and misdemeanors, and that if they unite with the Democrats to get rid of him, they could ride out the 4 years with President Pence. A lame duck, like Gerald Ford, better that Trump.
The union between Democrats and conservatives might seem too Machiavellian to be possible, but stranger things have happened recently.
Let the high crimes begin!

Does the season of The Apprentice with Lisa Lampanelli count as high crime?
I just think it's a crime that he doesn't fondle Tiffany the way he fondled Ivanka. It's not nice to choose favorites, Daddy!

The vote probably wouldn't pass, but it depends on what he would be impeached for. Approval rating is vital for the Republicans [as it would have been for the Democrats].

Talk amongst yourselves-
In and of itself, it's a lovely fantasy, until you realize that Pence would become President. And, like the Wicked Witch of the West, "she's worse than the other one."

I think he's worse in a lot of ways, and particularly in terms of his actual commitment to social conservatism. He'd be disastrous for reproductive and LGBT rights - things I suspect Trump really isn't going to do much about.
That being said, I would trust the zombie-like Pence over short-fused and thin-skinned Trump with control over the military, relationships with antagonistic foreign leaders, and especially the nuclear arsenal. And those are all important things.
Many Democrats - including, I think, Obama and Clinton - said that Trump was abnormal and dangerous in a very particular way, beyond normal policy disagreements, and I think they're right. So I'd cautiously welcome impeachment (however unlikely that is).

Titling the previous thread "The Coming Republican Apocalypse" wasn't lesson enough against cockiness?
Nah.
This is still an apocalypse for the Republicans. It's only the Alt Right that has ascended to power. Not the Mainstream Republicans, not the Movement Conservatives.
If this isn't a political apocalypse, what is?
Yes, your prediction of their death is just about come true.
Controlling The Presidency, The House, The Senate, The Supreme Court, The Governors is a recipe for apocalypse.
What are you on?
Encouraging nuclear proliferation and climate-change denial seems pretty apocalyptic to me.

PalJoey, a "political apocalypse" would be after the Federalist Party lost the election of 1800 and became squashed into oblivion during the Era of Good Feelings. You're delusional, counterproductive, and wrong saying that Republicans are facing a political apocalypse right now.
So what's going on with his fraud trial?

The trial is supposed to start on November 28, but I believe his lawyers filed a motion yesterday asking the judge to postpone the trial until after the inauguration. Their reasoning being, that he's too busy with the transition, and it's too important to the country, for him to be distracted with a trial at this time. What? He's not going to be busy after the inauguration? Ha!

And "the blacker the cherry, the sweeter the juice."
WTF????
I'm only gonna say this another 2000 times, get started on midterms yesterday! The Trumpkins can do damage but if they are harried and chivvied at each action by the Dems who ARE present that damage can be limited, until midterms when , hopefully the power imbalance can be redressed.

Interesting stuff, I might add.
You're delusional, counterproductive, and wrong saying that Republicans are facing a political apocalypse right now.
Delusions are in the mind of the accuser, counterproductive in what way and to whom, and two wrongs in this case may make a right.
If you don't like my "lusions," don't play in my threads.
Meanwhile, the GOP is hopelessly divided and Trump has no transition team. Those are facts, not my delusions.

You titled a thread with the ambition of a "Republican apocalypse," and now Republicans control the White House, both chambers of Congress, the majority of governorships, and soon, the Supreme Court. That would be categorically delusional and wrong.
I say "counterproductive" because you elect to continue brewing and boiling partisanship rather than taking meaningful action. If there's a specific piece of policy to which you believe Republican control poses a serious threat, why not start a thread or launch a petition to achieve your goal? Do something. Targeting Republicans and denouncing the President-elect gets nobody anywhere and just fuels bitter partisanship.
