This may already have been posted but the principals joining Glenn Close in Sunset are the same as in London. That is : Michael Xavier as Joe, Fred Johansson as Max and Siobhan Dillon as Betty. This was news to me; maybe it is for others too.

Oh my, look at this America, you're getting a lot of British actors on your stages, stealing jobs to nice American actors. Is that the reason why you voted for Trump?

Michael Xavier was the star of THE PAJAMA GAME a few years back, as well as the musical version of LOVE STORY.

Siobhan Dillon has been in many, many West End productions and she was also on the BBC show that picked Maria for the Sound of Music revival 10 years ago or so.  She came in second or third place.

Get ready for some strange American accents.

Why would American Equity allow this? These are roles that easily could (and should) be played by American actors.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

If Glenn announced it, perhaps she stipulated that they transfer with her if she felt confident in the work they had already done together.

Even so, Equity should have said no.

Having seen the run at the ENO I'm very surprised that they would go to the efforts to do this. However Fred Johanson made for a great Max so I hope you enjoy THAT casting at least.

If I were a New Yorker Sunset fan I'd have never forgiven them for not bringing over Patti and Kevin Anderson though - still my favourite Joe by a million miles (especially towards the end of his run).

This is getting a bit ridiculous. I can understand importing casts or creatives when they are a big star or pivotal to the production. But these are forgettable throwaway roles that I believe a US cast could have performed equally well. It doesn't seem fair that they come and are essentially taking the jobs of Americans that could do the same or better job.

USA, USA, USA.

And I say this not as a racist - I am a British citizen too. But the Broadway theatre and actors on average imo are by far the best in the world. There is no need to import unless necessary.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

The less said about that qolbinau thing the better.

Completely agree with somethingwicked. I was excited to see a group of working NY actors join Close. Now I have even less interest in seeing this.

Should the British only casts Brits, when Americans take British roles in the West End?

As for the rest of you, I am sure you will enjoy Michael being out of the swimming pool.

Sorry. Not prejudice; xenophobic etc.* is perhaps a better word. I think you get the point though.

It's funny how I can completely agree with the views of others yet still can't win or avoid the slimy personal attacks (re: above being described dehumanisingly as a 'thing'Sunset Boulevard cast. I don't care too much on this anonymous forum of course, but the immaturity here is pretty hilarious.

Personally, its of no matter of nationality, but of talent. I believe that there are stronger singers that are also regular Broadway actors who can sing the score better than what was done in London. (Example Sierra Boggess for Betty and Paul Nolan for Joe.) Sad to see this happen with both Miss Saigon and now Sunset, both of which I have been highly anticipating revivals of for quite sometime now.

I'm imaging this saves $$$ cutting rehearsal time and costs. Plus, Glenn probably feels safe with these principals. It's a short run and these folks can work together drama free without having to rebuild emotional trust.

Maybe they pooled together with Alastair Brammer and got a group rate for an accent coach.
