Saturday Night Fever will be playing Princess of Wales in February! I really want to see it, but am hesitant...I can't seem to find details of who's putting the show together. I'm guessing it's non-equity? Can anyone weigh in on whether it'd be worth checking out? I saw the non-equity production of In The Heights & it was painful...but then again, maybe it was because I really didn't like the show itself.

Also, if anyone from Mirvish is trolling this board: I love that your website now allows choose-your-own-seat. Thank you!

So it looks like this is a North American tour being produced by a new company called NorthCore Productions that is based out of Kitchener.  There are many Canadian Equity actors in it (I'm not sure if it's cast fully with Canadians).  Should be interesting to see how this shapes up!

Did anyone see this?  Unfortunately I did. I thought it was awful. Any other thoughts ?

I went to see it Saturday night and was very disappointed.  I was so ready to be dancing the night away but the casting, choreography and sound were terrible.  How can you screw up Saturday Night Fever?  Definitely not worth the prices they were charging and I sent Mirvish an email telling them just that.

^You do realize this wasn't a Mirvish show though?

No, I didn't know this. I just assumed.  I was sure I saw it on the Mirvish website and had been getting emails about it from Mirvish.  Oh well, let's see if they respond back to me.  Thanks.

For a Canadian company's first effort at a large-scale production, I thought it was entertaining. My test for a "bad" show is if I'm bored. Though some of it was underwhelming, I wasn't bored. I would've liked more dancing: I liked the dance competition at the end & the production number in the disco.

I was reading some reviews of other productions of the show, and I think a major problem is with the material itself. Saturday Night Fever is a gritty movie & I think the creators of the musical had a tough time translating it to the stage. On one hand, I think they wanted to make a musical with a Mama Mia-esque tone (something silly and fun). On the other hand, the darker plot elements of the show seemed almost campy (especially that song Tony sings after Bobby's fall…yech…and then he just goes to the dance competition! But again, I don't think that's the fault of the people putting on the musical).

I thought the female singers were really good. I liked the lady who sang in the disco with the crazy costumes, especially that giant loofah costume she wore at the start of the second act!

I wish the tempo of the music was a bit faster and that it sounded more disco (it definitely sounded like "Broadway versions" of disco songs).

I'm a sucker for the 70s, its music, and disco dancing, so I had a fun night. Though I agree about the ticket prices…they were kind of steep.
