She will be wonderful. I'm thinking about how funny she was in the concert version of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE and imagine she will be able to fit in well with the revival. Hope she is enough of a draw to sell tickets.
“I knew who I was this morning, but I've changed a few times since then.”
Very happy for her! I wish the production was more explicit about this before tickets went on sale (fortunately, my tickets are still for a Bette-scheduled night), but happy nonetheless. Great casting.
So glad I hadn't bought my tickets yet, love Midler but Donna Murphy was always my top choice for a DOLLY revival. I hope it's a healing show for her too. This is such wonderful news!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
This is the perfect gig for her. I will definitely go see her. I was hoping for an African American alternate, like Whoopi. But Donna is a great choice.

They were explicit that you could buy tickets to see Bette in Dolly and only put tickets online for all of the dates where she was scheduled to appear... not sure what the issue is there?
The actual Huffington Post article has some beautiful, very poignant quotes from Murphy and the people involved with the production, including Midler. Besides the fact I am overjoyed by this news, I feel so happy for Donna Murphy.

Oh, did they? My apologies, then, I was under the impression that they put up the complete performance schedule for sale. Didn't realize that! All good then
So will an understudy go on before June 13? Or will they be dark during those dates? Funny that she'll be performing the first show after the Tonys. The wait till June already seems eternal.

It's a brilliant role for her to take, considering that she recently lost her husband. Seem s like a bold choice to want to "go there", so soon, but she's a brilliant actress. I was sort of quietly wishing for Darlene Love, knowing their relationship and fondness for each other, but this casting will certainly do!
And how classy of Bette to say this: "Donna Murphy is one of the greats, and I’m so honored that we’ll be sharing this role. I was looking forward to staying home on Tuesdays, but looks like I’ll be going to the theater every week to watch her go on."
