I did like what he did with The Jungle Book, so looking forward to this with a skeptic optimism.

one of the least necessary film adaptations in the history of film adaptations. these Disney live-action remakes are positively exhausting.

Yeah, this is the most pointless remake ever. I'm just glad they brought back James. (Also, Donald Glover is Simba)

There are so many problems with this.

A. We really don't need a remake.  We didn't need a Beauty and the Beast remake either.  The original is great.

B.  This will probably be completely CGI.  The last time that I checked CGI does not equal live action.

C. Disney will probably completely f### up it's great score the same way it did to Beauty and the Beast.

Apparently Disney has decided that it's just too hard to be original so it's just going to recycle old material until it's just trash.

Also, why cast JEJ AGAIN for the remake?  If I wanted to see JEJ in the Lion King, I'd just watch the original.

For what it's worth, I did enjoy his Jungle Book, and I wouldn't want to hear anyone else trying to be Mufasa. I love the Donald Glover casting too, while  I'm at it...

Ughh. This is just a cash grab. Why mess with perfection?

Also it technically won't be live action, it'll be hyper-realized CGI animation, just like the animals in The Jungle Book. Unless of course, they can somehow wrangle real lions, warthogs, and meerkats to be in the movie, which I think would be too much even for Disney.

completely pointless to remake this. "Live Action" hardly means anything.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour will be starting up in Somerville, NJ on January 20, 2018. The tour continues through Sarasota, FL(Apr 24-25); Panama City, FL(Apr 27); Jacksonville, FL(Apr 28); Kansas City, MO(May 29-Jun 3); then touring throughout Asia in June - August.

What the hell?

Disney is now turning 2d animation classics into cgi animation classics?

Why do we need another animated Lion King?

This is why people need to support original ideas more than recycled ones.

Every Disney movie is considered original in their own right even if they take liberties on traditional versions of the fairytales. Nearly every one of them is recycled, arguably. With hundreds of films in their catalog, and this sudden upturn in live action retellings, and money in the bank, Disney can do whatever the heck they want. We will still get our original animated films like Moana and Zootopia, but if yall want the ORIGINAL Lion King, read Hamlet. If you want the ORIGINAL Little Mermaid, read the Andersen version. Simple solution: if you're not on board with a remake, why waste your time griping? Lion King - Live Action Movie

I'm looking forward to this interpretation. I've loved Cinderella and The Jungle book; beyond stoked for Beauty.  Why do people always complain at BWW? Why waste your time posting? Just don't see the damn movie.

The Disney live action adaptations are not necessarily remakes, but expansions of their animated movies. I loved Cinderella and that movie expanded on her character, her childhood/background, how she went from Ella to Cinderella, etc, while also answering questions most have had about the Cinderella story. I'm in the process of reading the Beauty and the Beast novelization of the new film, and that story also expands on things a 90 minute animated movie could not delve into. I haven't seen The Jungle Book, but I assume it goes deeper than the original animated film. I suspect the same will be for The Lion King. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the biggest fan of The Lion King movie (I know, I know), but I'll definitely go see this.
