Moreno has been in the mix for weeks now. THR is not a trade to make a mistake like that.

I would love if Moreno did this (and will reiterate that it feels like a negotiation strategy). HOWEVER... how great would it be for Chita to play the role and have the last laugh, 58 years after being passed over for the WEST SIDE film?

Exactly. Lin-Manuel Miranda is involved. Moreno will most definitely be in the film. This premature confirmation has generated enough excitement to merit and meet whatever hiccuped the negotiations. Moreno has taken notice as well and will disregard any nonsense to be part of this project.  

ONE DAY AT A TIME is a Netflix series therefore an entire season is shot in full.  They film from Spring to early Fall so she would be available for the film.  The role of Abuela Claudia is small enough that her scenes can be shot in 2 days with pick-ups done when she’s fully available if there is any scheduling conflict.

As much as I love Rita Moreno...no...at least not as originally written.

i really want rita moreno for this role. if she doesn’t get the role then it will be a huge loss. but i’m sure there are other great actresses that can pull it off. like the original actress who played abuela in the broadway production

a friend of mine got a callback and was asked to audition again. he auditioned for sonny. he told me that it is a casting call for benny, nina, sonny and vanessa. that means that they are looking for newcomers for those roles.

i wouldn’t mind seeing newcomers in these roles. it would be a great way to showcase new fresh new talent and it will give them a chance to shine.

You ARE aware he’s 39 and reads 29.  He looks more like college age Nina’s brother than father.

and this is what lin manuel said in a recent interview: “[Casting director] Bernie Telsey is pouring through all the auditions from our worldwide casting call. I get to see the really good stuff at the end—I’m watching a lot of videos right now. I’m actually super behind! There is a new song and Quiara’s screenplay is so smart and so great. It takes place now—it doesn’t take place whenever we wrote it. It’s really smartly updated. Anthony Ramos [the Hamilton original cast member who will play Miranda’s role of Usnavi] is such a talent and such a light. In a lot of ways he comes to the role even more naturally than I do. He’s just a star. Watching him become a star, I have a bit of the like, “I told y’all!” 

wowwww this make me even more excited for this movie. the fact that they have updated the script to make it take place now and that they added a new song makes it even more special.

the movie also has a budget of 50 million dollars. and rehearsals start in february so we should get some casting news this month

Right now Joseph Velez is listed as Kevin Rosario on IMDB. Not sure if there's any merit to this but he certainly has the look for the role.

that could possibly be false. cause lin wants latino legends and latino unknowns for this movie and i highly doubt that they would cast an unknown for the part of kevin. it has to be a big name. and on top of that, he doesn’t even sing.
