Just think with all the other shows opening, this one may just get lost. Sure, it's opening close to the Tony cutoff, but that's assuming the Tony voters see anything worth nominating in this show. I mean we've already got Comet, Dear Evan Hansen as shoo-ins for noms, and I'm sure War Paint will probably get a nom.

Ado Annie--I did see it at Papermill and would not recommend taking your Grandmother to it.  If my Gran was still here I'd probably consider taking her to Dolly or Come From Away.  Whatever you decide on, have fun!

Ughhh. I love me some Beth Leavel (and Laura Osnes, too), but I really just don't care about the show's content enough to buy tickets.

I do have this one on my list for our upcoming trip. Not sure why, maybe just the thought of a big band sound musical with some great dancing may be something slightly different than the other musicals that we have planned (Comet, Groundhog day, DEH)

That being said as much as I want to snag great tickets now, I think I will take the wait and see approach. I don't sense much enthusiasm for this show based on the few posts I have seen. Maybe wait until the previews start and get some reviews then. If they are not good, I can switch over to  Come From Away.....

It's really exciting to see an original musical hit the boards. The show was extremely well received at Papermill last year. This show boasts a top notch cast and creative team. As theater lovers we should be supporting the newer works as well as the revivals. I can understand if the subject matter does not appeal to some of you but what's really disheartening is how some of you feel the need to tear it down. Some of us do have a genuine interest in the show.

Theater_Nerd is so correct. We have such a tendency to devour our own young here, especially when it comes to new shows with original material. What say we give Bandstand a chance before ripping it to shreds? Andy Blankenbeuler has repeatedly said that the creative team has made many changes to the show since its run at Paper Mill. None of us has seen this show as it will appear on Broadway.

SO TRUE. While I didn't love it at Paper Mill, I am very optimistic about the Broadway transfer. The creative team has had a large amount of time to do rewrites and revisions. Original musicals are so exciting to have on Broadway...I'm very much looking forward to seeing it again.

Wow. This looks like a train wreck.

Pretty sure that's an almost, if not, all white cast. How disappointing, especially coming from Andy Blankenbueller.

I'd say having a diverse cast is important.

Don't know what you're talking about. I think it looks terrific. I saw it at Paper Mill and thought it was great. Had its flaws book wise but overall found it to be very enjoyable. The score is wonderful.

I agree. The music isn't memorable, especially the first song. The choreography also seemed uninspired.

This was the one show I was trying to squeeze into my May visit to NY, but just couldn't find a way to make it work. Seeing this video made me feel like Im not missing anything. I didn't enjoy the 5 minute video at all.

I will say, I couldn't keep my eyes off of Geoff. The man needs a leading role.

My fear with the show is a complaint I've heard from many: it's forgettable. Maybe it's okay while watching it, but there's no lasting memory. When I saw it at Papermill, I thought it was a show that had a pretty good cast. And that's about it. The commercial that came out last month was very fun and well made, but I didn't get "fun" from the rehearsal clips. I got what I saw at Papermill...which was nothing more then okay.

I hope changes have been made and they can rise to being memorable.

Let's all line up across the stage and sing earnestly. Was that meant to be a spoof?

I feel like there's a lot of negativity about Bandstand on this board. I thought the video was interesting enough.

I do agree, however, that the all white cast is unsettling.

Nothing in the clip made me want to see this. If anything, the song that Cory sang made me cringe for some reason. I adore Laura Osnes, too.

Doesn't this take place during segregation?

It shouldn't matter, especially since the story is not about segregation. Hamilton takes place during the time of slavery and the cast is multiracial.

The show takes place in the north, though. Right?
