Can anyone confirm if donna Murphy is replacing Christine? If so that would be a huge loss. Christine was my favorite part of the show at the goodman.

Christine was absolutely perfect in the role, plus Donna Murphy recently said she wouldn't returning to the stage anytime soon. Jorge, you made this up right?
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I didn't make this up. I was told this by someone who knows people in the show.

Wow! This would be so disappointing. I love Donna Murphy, but I can't imagine anyone being able to deliver "Pink" as Ebersole did (which seems to be the best song in the show). It's doubly disappointing that they keep passing over Bernadette Peters in the role, too. A Patti/Bernadette pairing would be a Broadway event like none other.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Why would they cast Donna Murphy in a role previously played by Ebersole? Not only do the creators have a history with Ebersole, each of their voices are totally different. Ebersole is a soprano, and Murphy has a much lower voice.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Well, it may not be that she is being fired. Ebersole could be dropping out for some reason. And despite their differences, Murphy does 'make sense' as a replacement - she was at one point attached to the show (though according to the composer, Patti/Ebersole were always the first choices).

I hope this isn't true. They would have to change keys and harmonies to make LuPone and Donna's voices work together. Christine was amazing. They are fools if they are replacing her
It sounds like Murphy was the first choice for the role. Maybe she's available again and they're getting her back. Personally, I loved Christine's performance--though I wasn't a very big fan of the show overall.

No offense, but at this point Bernadette couldn't sing the score. Ebersole has that crystalline voice that the songs were written for.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
Honestly I won't be very disappointed if it's not coming in. It was a decent show, but very much just a star vehicle for the two actresses and nothing more. There's not even a real story arc, just a bunch of back and forth scenes between the two women. Unless they can somehow find comparable replacements (which they most likely can't), the show will close once Patti and Christine/Donna leave.
Can we all just take a hot sec to look at this thread and look at any non-speculative information... because I don't see any. It's like a bad game of telephone
