I know it's been discussed in several posts on this board but I have not found the answer to this question. Has it been announced when Cynthia Erivo's last day will be in The Color Purple? I'm hoping to buy tickets for December but want to make sure she is still in the show. I know her one year contract will be up in November.
You dont remember because it's not been announced. It wouldn't surprise me if they announce closing for Jan....and I'm guessing they'll do what they can to keep her.
Edited because: stupid cell phone.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I think Nikki m James would be a great replacement if the show extends past the end of her contract.

No, her final day hasn't been announced. However, it's believed she extended. I'm going to assume the show will close in January without them replacing her.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
The current understudies would be good enough. I went with a friend yesterday without knowing Cynthia would not be performing. Kind of bummed at first but the moment Adrianna Hicks started to belt, I knew she'd be just as good. I saw the show twice before with Cynthia but even if yesterday was my first exposure, I wouldn't think I missed anything with how much Adrianna has to offer. I also found Carrie Compere's Sofia vastly different from Danielle Brooks's. Her performance was more mature whereas Danielle's take had more comic touch. Both do the part the justice it deserves but overall Carrie's grew on me more. The show is in good hands whoever you get basically. Now if only the message can come across...
As I posted in another thread, you can only purchase tickets for the Color Purple through Dec 18. Seems odd as of this late date, you cannot buy tickets through the end of the year. I guess read what you want into that as there is no other information that can be confirmed.

Cynthia's current contract term is only through mid-November at the moment. But I agree with dramamama that they'll probably extend/keep her as long as possible.
