Hello all,

I'm seeing a local production of FLOYD COLLINS tomorrow afternoon and am wondering in general how long the show is? Is it more a 2hr15m or 2.5hr or closer to 3hr? I know of course the actual runtime depends on the production but if anyone has any info to share it would be really appreciated!

If this is the Front Porch Theatricals production, can you report back on how it is? I'm thinking of going to check it out, too, when I have a chance next week. Sorry I can't help with the run time!

Yes indeed it is! I'm excited, they always seem to get very talented people. Never seen the show though.

I'm curious about runtime because the bus I need to take only runs every 50 minutes on Sunday and if the show isn't done by 4:30 I'll have to wait close to an hour until the next trip.

I want to say around 2:15-2:30 but I haven't seen it since the mini tour in 1999.

Don't be too envious, due to an unforeseen circumstance I have to miss the show.

Perhaps I will try to see it next weekend if I can. I was very much looking forward to it!

Perhaps the most beautiful score ever written for an Off-Broadway show. Seeing the Playwright's Horizon production in '95 (?) was superb; gorgeous music-making throughout, and doubly thrilling for seeing a show with this unique shape to it and having know idea how it would end. After the pain of Act II, the deliverance of "How Glory Goes" is all the sweeter. Has there ever been a more lovely finale number? Maybe only "Let Your Garden Grow" from CANDIDE.

Front Porch did an amazing Light in the Piazza last year- my review is under BWW Pittsburgh.

LOVED that production of Piazza too. I've seen their last three productions and thought they were all outstanding. And most of their actors aren't even Equity.

Yes, I suppose I shall have to envy him instead. Sorry, Mr. N.

I was finally able to see it Thursday night, and am definitely glad I did. I had heard the score before but it resonated (literally and figuratively haha) much better seeing it live. Many many talented people in the cast and the set made up of ladders actually worked quite well.

As for runtime, it was more than 2.5 hours but only a bit.

Love Floyd Collins so much. Basically a musical passion play (purification through suffering) crossed with a mournful lament about the inexorable nature of modernity. Great score as well.

This show has to make a return to New York sometime soon. I feel like when Guettel finally premieres a new piece it should come to Encores! or at least Off-Center. Can you believe its been over a decade since he premiered a new show? Fortunately I believe Millions will have its world premiere at the Signature Theatre next year if I've read correctly.

But yeah, Floyd is in my top 5 favourite theatre scores of all time. I have to see it staged one day.

Thanks for reporting back, Mr. Nowack! I've managed to miss every FPT show so far, so I really want to make a point to get there this weekend. I don't think Pittsburgh has seen a production since Point Park did it in 2002.

Ah Growl your are missing out! I do wish they used a space that was less out of the way though.

I'm also glad to hear you enjoyed it, Mr. Nowack. I'm hoping to go this weekend. The New Hazlett is definitely a bit off the beaten path - just being set back from the river and the rest of the city makes all of the difference. I haven't been to that theater in a number of years, but at the very least, I remember it being a fairly nice space.

Part of me wishes someone had bothered to preserve the architectural detail of the very first Carnegie Hall, but it's current state with the exposed brick is actually pretty unique and interesting.

The theater is only about a 10-minute drive for me. What keeps me away from it is that parking is a tremendous pain in the ass. I haven't been there since Carrnivale's INTO THE WOODS. Maybe I'll Uber over.
