The Off Broadway Alliance is running their 20at20 promotion again starting Sept. 5. $20 tickets are available 20 minutes to curtain. Lots of shows participating. More info and a full list (and links to their websites!) here:
I've done 20 for 20 a few times. Seats are good but it attracts lots of cheapskate people who don't know how to conduct themselves in the theater. II've had people pull out tuna fish sandwiches during dramatic scenes and lots of phones being used.I'll pay a bit more and get tickets through TDF. From now on.
That stinks. I think audiences are often a mixed bag these day...grrr. Interesting point about people maybe valuing the performance less. That's a sobering thought.
The thing is, if you pay top dollars for a premium seat, you will likely be surrounded by people who either love the show like their babies and are willing to shell out serious cash for a stellar experience, or earn big bucks, care about nobody but themselves, and do every despicable thing that you can also see from some of those who take rush tickets (getting high before seeing a show, browsing social media on their smart phones, take pictures with flash on...). From my experience, tourists take a large proportion of regular priced tickets, and this is a highly unpredictable crowd. So, it's pretty much a matter of luck where you sit. And karma, perhaps.

I went to the first preview of VERSO last night and really enjoyed it. Can't really say much without ruining things but I will say I love how he incorporates his life and life in general into the magic segments. And he is quite funny. Really cool set. A kind of low key show but I found myself hanging on his every word and you have to watch him closely as things just "happen". It was 2 hours including I intermission and they have some really nice merch.
