Sally, "The Man That Got Away" is not from the original. It is from the 1954 remake. The 1937 original (1932 if you consider "What Price Hollywood" the original" was not a musical.

I can't wait for one of the Gaga-penned new songs to drop. I think she's an incredible talent not only as a performer...but as a writer...very inspirational to me.
I think the change in release simply means they think this will be more of a summer draw(i.e attract younger viewers) than a fall release (typically older audiences, and more Oscar type fare). I don't think this really is the kind of thing that would be up for major awards (other than maybe Best Song).

They could have made it a gay couple. Dragging out this time worn plot and doing it the same way seems boring and unnecessary."

Nothing concrete. Yes, the fall is typically Oscars time. But some people do launch Oscar movies in the May. Woody Allen with Midnight in Paris. Of course, it might not have as much to do with the movie itself and might have more to do with Warner Bros. Theoretically, you can launch a good movie at any time now so they might have moved the release date for counterprogramming or because something is happening with their superhero movies.
I will say that while I'm not convinced she'll be a great actress, I am encouraged to hear Bradley Cooper's (and presumably Lady Gaga's character) is a country music star. Based on her music, I think she does well singing at least country-adjacent. I was worried when I thought she was going to do her best imitation of Judy Garland.
