Idina Menzel To Appear in Lifetime's "Beaches" |
I hope to god we get to her Idina sing Otto Titsling. Not because I'm sure it would be great, but merely for my own curiosity.

My exact thought, after, "Will she do Wind Beneath My Wings??" (Yes.)
I feel like so many reviews are going to evaluate her performance with the question "Does she buy a titsling or does she buy a brassiere?"

Oh, you know your career has hit its summit when you're offered AND you accept a Lifetime movie. Ouch!
An HBO movie is one thing. HBO movies are industry acclaimed and A ranking actors appear in them. Then there's Lifetime. Even Lifetime series reference Lifetime movies as sappy jokes.
Idina needs to find better representation. To be merely offered a Lifetime movie is a career slap-in-the-face.
Can I assume Cheno will play the Barbara Hershey part?

This seems like a terrible idea.
Why? Just why?
While a Lifetime movie isn't considered a career highlight, Idina has yet to prove herself as a capable dramatic actress (and I'm a fan). She's not going to be offered a starring role in an HBO movie or big budget Hollywood flick. I would think she would need to do more supporting roles, or small independent films first, and frankly, I'm surprised she hasn't. I haven't heard officially that her TV pilot wasn't picked up, but if it wasn't, I suspect, beyond the lame premise, that the powers that be didn't think she could carry a show.
Lifetime isn't the joke it used to be. Their original content is on the upswing, especially Unreal, and are going through a major rebranding. I'd hardly consider it a slap in the face.

You must not follow their ratings...
I have rarely seen the success of an animated movie tied as closely to one of the voice actors as Idina was to Frozen. I am surprised if her film/tv bankability didn't surge from that gig.

With Frozen 2 coming out girl is doing juuuuuust fine.
And UNREAL is bringing a lot of acclaim to the network. Kind of lik My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the Cw.

Tell that to Alfre Woodard, who was nominated for an Emmy for their Steel Magnolias remake (or to Queen Latifah, who was in that same remake and then did an HBO film the next year). Tell that to Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams, who did The Trip to Bountiful for the network. Tell that to Kristen Wiig, or Joan Allen, or Shirley MacLaine, or Susan Sarandon, or any other host of actresses who have done Lifetime movies over the years and seen considerable success and/or acclaim for them. Just because Lifetime makes some silly movies doesn't mean they're all total crap. They tend to do at least one "prestige" film per year.

The question is though why are they doing this at all? They are not gonna top the original. This is such a stupid idea.

Networks/Producers don't remake things to improve them, they do it to make $$$$. I thought everyone knew that...

Agreed. Surprised they didn't link up with the stage version and just use some of the songs, etc.
Saw a tweet that Julianna Marguiles was involved & then the tweet was deleted. That would be fun casting!
