Is it a play or musical?

It's a play. John Malkovich and Joan Allen starred in the original Broadway production.

Don't forget Lou Liberatore in that cast.

Excited this is being staged again.

Believe the last time was '02 at the Signature with Ed Norton.

I have a strong sentimental attachment to this show, even if I missed Malkovich & Allen.

It was the first straight play I ever saw.  My Pale & Anna were Eric Roberts & Lisa Emery.  I really loved Roberts in the role & ended up going back 2 weeks later.

Evidently three of the four characters are already cast. Any gossip on who the other actors are?

Sunday was a very small unflashy musical. That was revived in 08 with Daniel Evens and Jenna Russell . So presume what you said was a joke

If Jake indeed does this, can they ask Michelle Williams play Anna? That would be amazing.

Also, which theatre?

Sunday has the potential to be thrilling.  The Roundabout production was a color-by-numbers recreation, not a fresh look.  Raul Esparza and Melissa Errico were far better a couple of years earlier in DC's Sondheim fest.

How it had animation and the original did not?

Along with Edward Norton the Signature revival had Catherine Keener as Anna and the supporting men were then unknowns Ty Burrell and Dallas Roberts.

Malkovitch was amazing but I've never been a big fan of Joan Allen onstage. A somewhat passive actress in a very passive role.  But I loved Keener and Norton put such a unique personal spin on Pale it was almost like a new show. A show I preferred.

Did you see it with Malkovich? I swear it was 8 hours long!

I'm sure I'd like it better with Norton or Gyllenhaal.

But you're a comic book reader, so apparently your opinion doesn't count! LOL.

Gaveston, you are one of my favorite posters here, always love to hear you chime in. I would love to hear your thoughts about that original production! I gather you didn't care for Malkovitch? What about the others?

I saw this at Signature when Elisabeth Shue replaced Keener and really enjoyed it. It was my first exposure to the play so I'm really looking forward to this!

I saw it pre-Broadway at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. I remember liking Joan Allen and Lou Liberatore very much (they were new to me at the time). I just found Malkovich's performance so indulgent, I'm sure I'd stopped listening after an hour or so. Add to that the passing of almost 30 years and I'm afraid I can't discuss the play intelligently now. Sorry to disappoint you in view of your kind remarks. FWIW, I am otherwise a fan of Lanford Wilson.

I disliked Malkovich so thoroughly I've never really gotten over it. His only performances I've liked are ones where he is mocking himself (which I must admit he is a good sport about doing).

I feel the same way about the Malks.  And to be very superficial, I feel like Pale has to be very physically attractive for it to work and, for me, John really is not "hot".

Burn This on Broadway Spring '17  I guarantee A8 hates this play (ironic because Lanford has mentioned that it was inspired by Streetcar and A8 claims Williams is one of his fave playwrights....)

I completely agree.

Now Gyllenhaal is obviously gorgeous, but I find Norton equally attractive, even though he isn't if you analyze his features objectively. I would go to see him in anything.

Best to ignore trolls! How interesting that it was inspired by Streetcar. A part of me wants to read it, on the other hand I just want to go in without knowing much. Without being spoilery, is Pale a Stanley type and Anna a Blanche? Or perhaps it's not so literal? And do you see Jake as a good fit?
