Also, it's a movie, so we can expect mediocre singing.

I don't know if he worked directly with Stephen, but he was in billy Elliot directed by Stephen daldry so he has the connection. I'm wondering who could he play. Probably Fiyero, but he seems more of a boq.

You should probably just stop watching new movie musicals. You should stop following this one now. You are just going to get mad, you will make early judgements based on little evidence, complain to anyone who will listen, and then stick your foot in your mouth by saying something horribly racist just like in times past.

B-B-BUT TRUTHFUL SINGING!!!

What I think most people don't understand is that live action musicals DON'T WORK anymore. Not since we have stopped using studio backlots to film drama. With the rare exception of something hyper-stylized like Sweeney Todd, the animated medium allows for characters to start singing and dancing without it feeling awkward. Wicked could have made a great animated film, but now I worry. Plus, Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth could have voiced the main characters without it looking horrible.
While I think you make some very good points, Fantod, do you not think Wicked would be highly stylized as well? It is set in a magical fantasy land. And thanks to the iconic 1939 film, many people envision Oz as a musical place.
It could be amazing if the filmmakers FINALLY understand the importance of sensational singing. That is the basis for musical film. Embrace the artform instead of the derogation we see all the time. Switching between speaking and singing 3 times in 1 sentence, speaking 3 words and then use a shaky vibrato on the 4th does not make it realistic but very uneasy.
Embrace the artform and then paint it in with the right cinematography to take it to an even higher level.
Edit: Great point about the necessity of it being highly "stylized". I think that is essential to support this artform, which is per definition not literal, but a triumph of the fantasy. Movie musicals can work perfectly, if they do not treat it like a normal film with realistic sets and normal dialogue.

Definitely not, but I wouldn't be surprised if the movie gives them cameo appearances as other Ozians.
What's the reason every news site is removing the message about the Wicked movie? It's weird, 'cause it's still on the official Twitter account of Universal.

They can fight among themselves as for who will play Morrible

Liza as Morrible would be so great. There's obviously the sentimental reasons behind casting her, but she would also be terrifying in the role. I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it.
The claymation post was a clear joke, but I wouldn't mind seeing Laika do a musical- their movies have an intricate high tech take on stop motion, and they seem like the only firm still invested in the medium.
I suspect this will be a Beauty and the Beast affair and film early on for a lenghty CGI heavy post production.
Daniel Radcliffe has that nerdy awkwardness to him, passable good looks and is on the shorter side, he can carry a tune, reads late teens/early twenty on screen and has dancing abilities. He is the absolutely perfect fit for Boq in this although I can also see it going to Platt's son from Pitch Perfect.
Also Idina, Norbert and Kristin should appear in the birthing scene as Elphaba's parents and Midwife, it's the perfect sort of passing the torch to the new cast and gives all three of them a scene and song together.
Jordan Fisher as Fiyero, he has the boyish charm and look and Fiyero is supposed to be a person of colour.
