DIRTY DANCING, but such a negative thread

Potted Potter Off-Broadway remains the only show I've ever walked out on.

Though I'm also not a huge fan of these "negative for the sake of being negative" threads, I have to be hypocritical for a moment, since I can't pass up the opportunity to mention the single worst piece of theatre I have ever witnessed in my life: a recent musical at the National Theatre called Wonder.Land. An utter disaster in every conceivable way. After seeing it, I racked my brain to think of the shows I've hated the most in my life, and I came to the fully realized conclusion that Wonder.land was not only the most atrocious, but had the fewest (read: zero) redeeming qualities.

And that's all I have to say about that. I won't be opening this thread again because I'd like to avoid the complaint parade (hypocritical - I know).

Spamalot!  Hated it!  But I do love Monty Python and the Holy Grail!  The movie just didn't translate well for a Broadway musical IMHO.

NYC: The Last Ship

London: Behind The Iron Mask, or Too Close To The Sun (both by the same creator, may God forgive him)

Most recent; Fun Home. Deadly score. Annoying kids. Boring. I couldn't wait to escape. Really very overrated.

Leap of Faith on Broadway (Raul Esparza). Woof! Everything was so dreadfully mediocre, the whole was a hell of a lot less than the sum of its parts.

Paramour was also quite terrible.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Kismet

Hot Shoe Shuffle

I didn't see it but in high school I was in a musical adaptation of The Getting of Wisdom, a classic Australian novel set in the 19th century about a girl who hated our school...it was really bad.

I saw a community production of Into the Woods once in South Carolina that would have made me hate Into the Woods if I didn't already know the material before going in.  The most painfully bad two hours in a theatre I have ever experienced.

How can a theatre fan HATE fun home? I don't care if you hate the music, the story should at the very least make you feel empathy.

Years back, there was a touring production of Doctor Doolittle that starred Tom Hewitt and a then unknown Tony Yazbeck that toured my hometown. I think Dee Hoty was in it as well? Regardless, it was the most dreadful thing I'd ever seen. I was a kid and always just happy to be at a show, but this one made even me want to leave during intermission. Sadly, we stayed.

I think it eventually closed down to retool and then went back on the road in a new version with Tommy Tune. If memory serves, it didn't get better.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

The problem is, if you walk in Circle in the Square knowing nothing about the material, it may take some time to figure out the girls are the same person. This might ruin the first number depending on how perceptive you are.

Dirty Dancing. Hands Down, my worst night of "theater" ever.
