I work there so have never had to rush it. I can tell you that, like with most theaters, they have a fixed amount of rush tickets. They will not sell more even if the house is half empty.
I can also tell you the 6pm performance on Sunday is the lightest show of the week for us since we just started doing them two weeks ago and nobody really knows about them.
You should have no problem picking one up for that performance. Not sure about the rest.
I rushed SOR the last Sunday in April and got to the Box Office at 10:30, (the BO opens at 11 on Sundays) There were three people in front of me, all buying tickets for the matinee. By the time that the box office opened up, there were maybe 10 people in line altogether. Seemed like a pretty easy rush.
Yeah the show hasn't been selling too well either you should be fine...also I wouldn't spend so much on it. It's not so great, and the main actor in it barely shows up to work! Very surprised by the Tony nominations this week.

Alex doesn't do matinees on two show days. Since that has more or less become the policy his attendance record has been exemplary.
And the show is a lot of fun. At least that's what most people who come see it, especially our regulars who have already seen it multiple times, feel.
I rushed last Monday (7pm show) and was able to get a last minute rush seat. After holding out hope on a couple lotteries to no avail, I figured I walk over to the Winter Garden on the chance they had a single rush to sell. I got there after work around 5:10pm and was able to snag one in the third row all the way to the side. It was labeled partial view, but was pretty good as far as partial view goes (the one thing I missed was the chalk board at the back of the classroom when the stage opens up for that set). And at intermission I moved into an empty seat in the second row a few seats more central than mine which gave a great view.
I didn't expect this show to be my kind of thing, but wow was it fun! Great talent all over the stage, Brightman is great and I loved being up close to the action. Pleasantly surprised, and I would definitely go again. If you are rushing, I would try to do weekday performances which seem to be easier to get tickets to than the weekends which from posts here and seeing crowds after work, appear to be jam packed.

Yeah Monday nights are a pretty safe bet too. We've just started those as well (have only had two so far), so there's not a huge advance for them.
Thanks for the info! My husband went by today at 11:30 and got 2 rush seats for the 6pm, far to the side, row D - the guy next to us got his late in the afternoon. We moved back about 10 rows to get a better view, no one seemed to mind.
The show is a blast, the kids are great, and Alex is AMAZING!
