Have one spot open for upcoming trip and trying to decide between these two shows.  Right now have the following booked:  Dear Evan Hansen, Fun Home, Hamilton, Long Day's Journey into Night, She Loves Me and The Color Purple.  Something Rotten will tour in our city next year but always like to see those who created roles.   An Act of God might be better because it's short and will be after Longs Day's.  On the other hand, wondering if I've already seen best jokes on the web.  Thanks!

God will be great, but don't miss the Broadway cast of Rotten.

They're both kinda dumb, goofy, low-brow humor, but I enjoyed An Act of God more. But then maybe that was because my expectations were lower. An Act of God is a much more simple, unassuming piece. Something Rotten is much flashier and in your face.

Personally, I'd recommend An Act of God, but based on general consensus of opinions I've seen/read, Something Rotten might be a safer bet.

Agreed with the recommendations for Something Rotten. Haven't seen Act of God with Sean Hayes, but it's more of a stand-up routine than a show. I enjoyed it with Parsons, but I think Something Rotten is better.

My other favorites right now, if you want to see something that may not tour (as of now--who knows what will happen), my other favorites right now are Bright Star and American Psycho. But Something Rotten is an excellent choice.

They're both tremendously dumb shows. I guess Rotten for more entertainment value due to the cast and production elements.

Something Rotten, for sure.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

If you saw the Tony Awards -- or look up the "Something Rotten" performance on youtube -- you have seen the one good part of that show. I haven't seen 'Act of God" but are those really your only options?

Not true! "Welcome to the Renaissance", "Hard To Be The Bard", "Will Power" are so great, probably some others not coming to mind. Those Shakespearean word plays are killer. And seeing "A Musical" in person is totally worth it!

I describe Something Rotten as  PG13 version of Book of Mormon in terms of humorous zaniness. So if someone didn't like BoM, I probably wouldn't recommend Rotten, but wouldn't hesitate if vice versa.

No comment on Act of God. Didn't see it.

Having seen both, I'd see Rotten a hundred more times before I saw An Act of God again.

My initial reaction was to say Something Rotten, which I loved. But considering you can see it on tour, and you're seeing after a 4h play I might go with an Act Of God. I haven't seen it with Parsons last year, but I love Sean Hayes and would have made it more of a priority if he had been in it then. I love the clips I've seen of him in LA/SF, and compared to clips of Parsons, I find Sean funnier.

It might be a more relaxed way to end the after the marathon with Long Day. Something Rotten is so hilarious, it's quite a lot to take in the first time around. My friend was so overwhelmed that she didn't really love it until she saw it a second time. The jokes/laughes come at such a pace you don't really get a brake for 2.5 hours, and I'm not sure I could handle it on a 2-show day, let alone after an intense 4h play.

Thanks for the recommendations.  The general consensus seems to be Rotten.  The one thing I didn't mention is that if we went with An Act of God, I would need to switch our tickets for She Loves Me to the Wednesday matinee instead of the Saturday evening performance (and we got really good seats discounted.)  So, I think we will just leave the Wednesday matinee open and head to the TKTS booth where we should easily be able to get tickets for Rotten.

I'd do Rush for Rotten. Not very competitive. On a 2-show-day you should be fine arriving at 9:30. And yes, highly recommended. The original cast is a must-see.

Something Rotten is way more fun. An Act of God is good for like 20 minutes then it gets a little tired. I think you'd have to be a big Sean Hayes fan to be into it.

Something Rotten.

The humor is delightful and often "Schtick" but far from dumb.
