JESSICA LANGE is winning the TONY for LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT |
Is being a press agent hard work?

You silly thing, lol. I do this for fun. I'm a longtime Lange fan.

If she's in the same category as Sophie Okonedo, she'd better be scared. As incredible as Lange always is, Sophie is giving the single best performance by an actress this year in THE CRUCIBLE.

I'm not worried. Neither should Lange be nor any of her supporters, for that matter. She'll triumph against whomever. That's just the kind of triumphing-against-the-odds legend and powerhouse she is.
Also, your screenname totally took me back to my '90's youth and being Angela Chase.

When I've never been more certain about something in my life.
It's funny how different everyone's opinion is this year in this category. To me, Michelle Williams is easily the best in that category.
Mark, if I can transport anyone back to being Angela Chase, then my hard work will all have been worth it.

I just snatched the boxed set from my bookshelf. I know what I'm binging on tonight. ![]()

Just need to point out how lucky we are to have a season full of such talented women. ALL of the actresses that have been mentioned here are giving incredible performances and would be worthy of a win. Great problem to have.

I do think it's important to remember how wonderful all of the ladies mentioned and not mentioned are this season. It's a beautiful thing and, you're right, we're lucky to be bestowed their gifts.
I'm just so excited for Lange to win the Tony. Aside from believing she truly deserves it, I'm also just an excited fanboy who wants her to nab a Tony and Grammy so she could have ALL of the industry awards in every medium, lol.

Didn't know Langes press agent was a fan of BroadwayWorld. Welcome.
Michelle Williams delivered hands down the greatest performance of the season. Her performance was riveting, heartbreaking and left me literally shaking after the show was over.
Jessica Lange to me was playing Jessica Lange. Loved her in the role and she's incredible to watch but she does the same thing on AHS. Even the inflections in her voice are the same. She does it well and is great but I don't feel it was exactly a stretch or particularly challenging for her.
Regardless this is definitely the category with the fiercest competition.
I think Mark-Alexis is the reason Jessica Lange won't come out the stage door.
I agree with BroadwayLuv2. Is it really acting when you're being yourself? Lange is wonderfully CAST in her role. But it's most definitely no stretch from her roles in the last 15 years. Glass Menagerie, anyone? American Horror Story? I love Jessica just as much as anyone, but I'm yet to see a broad range from her. Michelle Williams, on the other hand, displays an astonishing range of emotion. Michelle's role is infinitely more challenging and meaty. And she delivers the goods with a passion and an intensity unparalleled in this year's nominees.
Wouldn't you have to personally know an actor or actress to be able claim that they're "playing themselves" in a role?
If you mean that Lange is back at playing another tormented, unhinged role - well, duh. She's our best tragedienne. Thankfully, the reviews are in, so there's that.
Tony please.
Also, I think Michelle Williams is astonishing.

So how many of the possibly nominated shows have you seen in Broadway?
Congratulations to Magisterial Lange on her first Tony nomination! Also, congratulations to the rest of the cast and team of "Long Day's Journey Into Night" for their 7 Tony nominations, making it the most nominated play of the season!
Lange will win this. Here's what Michael Musto over at Goldderby.com has to say:
Best Actress is a movie star danceoff between Jessica Lange (for the almost four hour revival of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”) and Lupita Nyong’o (for “Eclipsed”). But Jessica will get it for emoting through the long journey, and because she’s come so far since her shaky 1992 Broadway debut in “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
Also, the fact that the production itself was nominated 7 times bodes well for Lange's chances. I can't wait to see her win!
You were totally the member who was kicked off GoldDerby for the Lange lunacy.
PS: Williams should win.
Wow, pundits and critics are starting to chime in and they're all predicting Lange:
NEW YORK TIMES
Scott Heller: "Can you not win a Tony for playing Mary Tyrone?"
Charles Isherwood: "I think Jessica Lange has a pretty good shot at winning. It is one of the two great roles for women in the American canon, along with Blanche DuBois, and she received largely glowing reviews. I found her performance to be very moving and accomplished."
NEW YORKER
Michael Schulman: "Jonathan Kent’s acclaimed revival of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” starring Jessica Lange, who has a good chance at the Tony for Best Actress in a Play."
GOLDDERBY
David Buchanan: "Jonathan Kent’s acclaimed revival of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” starring Jessica Lange, who has a good chance at the Tony for Best Actress in a Play."

Yes, being nominated is the first step to winning an award.
