This has been mentioned elsewhere, but thought I'd create a separate thread so more people are aware of this. Audio of a performance of the Lyric Opera of Chicago's 'The King and I', starring Kate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban, will be broadcast on WFMT on Sunday 1 May, 7:00pm (CDT?). You can listen online at http://www.wfmt.com/listen/.

My heart is heavy that I cannot see this.  Would someone please give Kate Baldwin a leading role on Broadway?

Soon.

I'm grateful to be able to listen to it at all but good God, will they never shut up?

I'm so glad I made it on time. Why are they giving a detailed synopsis? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of listening?

You would think they'd realize most if not all people choosing to listen to this on the radio would know the plot. Also, it's not like an opera in a foreign language, I think you'd get it just as a radio drama. This is so unnecessary.

God, even just the audio of Kate Baldwin is unbelievably charming.

Kate sounds lovely! Gypsy, I'm not sure, but I paused it and it actually paused, so it might work. I'm sure somebody is recording it, though.

I think Paul Nakauchi has better comedic timing as Kralahome in the current Lincoln Center production.

Very strong high notes. It's odd that this song comes so early in the show. It seems like Tuptim should have some more time to build up resentment.

I've been a fan of Ali Ewoldt since I saw her as Cosette about 10 years ago. Yay Ali!

I'd love to see Ali Ewoldt as Julie Jordan, truthfully. Such strong pitch. I adore her voice.

I can't believe I missed this.

But not as much as I can't believe that recordings of theatre are still only broadcast once, in an age when that is utterly preposterous and easily solved, and people will pirate it anyway.

Kate's voice is very expressive but I kind of wish I could see Paolo's performance. This Lady Thiang feels more comedic than Ruthie.
