New PS Classics recording hints

On the PS Classics site,  they have a hint as to which vintage musical they will be recording next. The first hint is that one of the supporting players was recurring in two top-rated sitcoms. Any guesses?

Found it! It's written as, "One of the supporting players later recurred on two top-rated sitcoms." I had been hoping that they were referring to Jane Krakowski, too. However, that phrasing suggests that the show preceded the sitcoms.

Plus, in both of her biggest sitcoms, Jane was far more than a recurring role. I would love PS Classics to record "She Loves Me" - their "On the Twentieth Century" is one of my favorite Roundabout recordings.

The "vintage" musicals they record are usually "lost". I wouldn't call SHE LOVES ME lost. Am I misunderstanding?

ALLY MCBEAL wasn't a sitcom and UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT is not a top-rated sitcom since it isn't on a network that measures ratings. Regardless, I'd love it if they record SHE LOVES ME, I agree that their ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY is stunning, and in fact, I consider it one of the best cast recordings I've ever listened to shepherded by Kristin Chenoweth, who gives one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard on a cast album. This production of SHE LOVES ME needs that kind of beautiful treatment, it's such a special show and production and everyone is giving such stellar performances.

I googled this phrase and the only result is your post. Do you have a link?

The answer to this clue does not sound like She Loves Me. 

 

But on that subject, it seems like most of the Roundavout revivals have received a cast recording. Since they are a not for profit, I wonder if they operate under different Union rules when it comes to making a cast recording. As discussed elsewhere, doing a cast recording can be incredibly expensive because of the rules that apply to a Broadwat Production contract

Bea Arthur starred in the Off-Broadway production in 1954.

THREEPENNY is also far from lost though. It's produced regularly and has been recorded a million times.

If it fits in with the other vintage restorations it's likely something none of us have ever ever heard of! Based on the clue though it might be something from more like the 40's or 50's.

Florence Henderson was on The Today Show and the Brady Bunch. She was in Wish You Were Here, Carousel, Oklahoma and Fanny before appearing on these shows.

I don't think it's She Loves Me. PS Classics has never teased an original cast recording, and the teaser explicitly says the star "later recurred" on the sitcoms. Krakowski's television series are either ended or in progress.

I got that, which is why I focused on the fact that it says two sitcoms and was explaining why the other two shows that she has been a part of do not qualify.

I don't think P.S. Classics considers anything after 1950 to be "vintage".

 

I had never heard of Sweet Little Devil, Kitty's Kisses, or Sweet Bye and Bye until they released those studio recordings.

 

I'm sure this one is going to be similarly obscure.

Hint #2: One of the supporting players was a ballerina.

Could it be Jackpot? Betty Garrett was on two top sitcoms (All in the Family and Laverne & Shirley), and Flower Hujer was a ballerina. And PS Classics released Misia last year, so another Vernon Duke score might make sense.

Anyone know anything about Jackpot? I only found it by randomly looking at what Betty Garrett had done on Broadway. Here's the Wikipedia link for Jackpot, if anyone's curious.

Tommy Krasker is a major Duke fan so one of his scores is always a possibility.
