Hamilton Tour Rehearsals in SF before starting Tour |
The finding neverland tour is doing the same with buffalo. Is this going to be more common?
Wow. Six weeks? Where are they going to put the cast up? Extended Stay America in Emeryville?
What else is airBnB for? :) (Apart from largely ruining the housing market in this [series of explatives deleted] city

Yes, teching a tour at a touring house is so common that it happens for 100% of tours.
Well they aren't just teching they are doing their full rehearsal process in both cities. They would usually rehearse in New York.
That's interesting and fairly unique. I wonder if the tour cast a lot of actors out of California.

Has this been printed anywhere (other than the original post) that Hamilton is doing their full rehearsal process in SF?
Finding Neverland is rehearsing in NYC and teching in Buffalo, just like any other tour.

Yes, Finding Neverland is teching in Buffalo, just like every other tour techs somewhere. Before the cast arrives in Buffalo for tech, they rehearse at a studio in NYC. Just like every other tour.
The information on the Hamilton cast rehearsing in SF came from a very strong source that would absolutely know and is not public information yet, which is why we have these chat boards to leak cool stuff like this...

It's not completely unprecedented. Fosse's national tour rehearsed and launched in Chicago. It helped that the theater had two rehearsal rooms. Another tour rehearsed using that rehearsal space (though I can't for the life of me remember which one).
I'm thinking more about the cost of putting everyone up for rehearsals, including per diem. Since most tours are cast primarily out of NYC, I assume this is the reason why they rehearse there. Certainly every city has rehearsal spaces, so that's not the issue.
The article regarding Finding Neverland and Buffalo states that the show will be in residence there for 3-5 weeks prior to opening, which is fairly typical for an initial load-in and tech period. The company will not be spending their full rehearsal period there.
The Production contract allows tours to name New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, or San Francisco as their Point of Organization. This means that that city is essentially home base for that tour, and rules regarding housing, transportation, and per diem become much more relaxed for rehearsals and when the tour is performing in that city. Typically if a tour is teching and opening in Chicago, LA, or San Francisco it is a safe bet to assume that that city is the Point of Organization and they probably also spent the entire rehearsal period in that city.

It will be fun to have them here for the extended stay!
Because you plan to hang out with them a lot? I'm confused as to how this affects you or the city at all.
Ouch, this is not good at all.
What it really means is that for the five month run in San Francisco, plus the six week rehearsal, the producers will not be paying the actors any per diem. The producers get to pocket $45,000 per actor plus plane fare (since the point of origin is San Francisco you are gonna have to get there yourself). It is quite a shrewd move and disappointing for a show that is making money hand over fist.
ugh- that is really disappointing to hear- unless this is cast with all SF performers, that is pretty low

obviously op will be partying with them 24/7
come on gypsy101..we've had a better and more mutually respectful posting relationship than that...
Im excited to break the news the cast is rehearsing here because it is news. i just reconfirmed it with a senior shn source last week.
The cast rehearsing here will mean more publicity for the show and will be good for sf and the SF theatre community to promotehamilton and musicals in general.
It will probably also mean a better show since i have tix for opening night.....
Im excited about the extended stay because I dont live in NYC and want to see hamilton multiple times and have season tix which will enable me to do so.
Im also excited that SF got hamilton first...hopefully shn will do this more with really hot shows that tour
i dont know about the actors getting screwed on their comp or per diems, i dont know the inside of the industry that well

If we are being technical, New York for Hamilton first and chicago will be getting it first for the "tour"
