Fox's next live musical

since grease was a huge success, which musical do you think fox should do next? for my wish list, i hope they do little shop of horrors

With the dancing i saw on Grease Live, I really hope Fox does West Side Story next.

I'd like to see a musical that doesn't already have a hugely successful film adaptation or at least one in which they will stick to the stage script and not just do a live tribute to the movie like Grease was. I know they want title recognition and so shows that already have movie adaptations are the most likely candidates  but perhaps they could choose something like Footloose or The Full Monty which have movie versions but don't have filmed versions of their musical adaptations.

Pippin would be an amazing show to do. I can just imagine the huge, luxurious amounts of space being beautifully used here.

It's a shame that Footloose should was released again - that would be a perfect fit for them.

That sounds more like Galavant than what FOX and NBC have done with Grease, The Wiz, Peter Pan, and The Sound of Music.

... nothing in anything I've read about it have hinted in any way to this. It's being advertised as a Live Musical Event, based on the Dutch musical sensation.

I'm sure they'll stick to shows that everyone's heard of. I think West Side Story and Dreamgirls are two strong contenders.

 

I wouldn't expect to see Vanessa Hudgens in The Light in the Piazza.

 

Or Sarah Michelle Gellar in Grey Gardens.

 

Or Jon Hamm in Kiss of the Spider Woman.

 

Or Dermot Mulroney in La Cage Aux Folles.

 

Other possible (real) contenders would be Mamma Mia!, Annie, Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, 42nd Street (trying to lure the Dancing with the Stars crowd), or Camelot.

 

They'll look for shows with younger leads or lots of younger supporting characters to make sure they cover all the TV demographics. Songs they know, or plots or characters they recognize.

 

But yeah, I wish they would tackle Ragtime or Big River, both of which I think would adapt well for TV. It's not likely though.

They are, but they're doing it "movie musical" style and basing it on the 1975 feature film version, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

I agree, I thought the whole point was to do a Broadway stage musical live, not a movie musical.

If marketed correctly, Drood might be fun... getting the audience to vote might be a great way to get people to watch and get involved.

OK, I did not watch it yet. Recorded it and will watch this week. From what I read, people seem to be saying it was more like a movie being done live.
