Husband and I going the first weekend in April. There aren't many Sunday eve shows currently, it might "just" be a 4-show trip vs. the usual 5 shows. Planning on "American Psycho," "Waitress," "She Loves Me" and either "Fiddler" or "School/Rock." There are discounts out there for AP and Fiddler, but nothing for Waitress, SoR or SLM, at least not that aren't expired by then. Any leads? (over 35, so the HipTix option is out for Roundabout)

I saw SOR and though it is good- it is not must-see- IMO- fun but slight.  I would rather see the Audra McDonald show,personally- if yu have not seen Fiddler- go with that-

Sadly "Shuffle..." has the note "...no preview performances between March 27th-April 3rd, 2016." We'll be there the 1st - the 4th. (Friday to Sunday)

We go about 2x/year so have seen most everything else (well, that we'd likely wanna see.) Might consider "Fiddler..." instead as I've actually never seen a full production. Haven't heard much either way about this mounting though aside from a few "meh"s, but still curious.

I will skip School of Rock and go with Fiddler. I went to School of Rock, too loud, boring, gave me a  headache and we left even before intermission (and that was a first for me I always try to make it thru intermission at least!) Fiddler is so lovely and such a classic!

^ I would skip Fiddler for School of Rock - but it's a matter of taste obviously and what you enjoy.

Just as an aside..Finding Neverland has a Sunday night show and there are good discounts out there as well.

I know there was some upcoming show that is not open yet and had Sunday night performances because I remember thinking the only Sunday night in April it wasn't playing was the weekend I'm going. Might be one of the plays that's coming up if you have checked those. In case you don't only want to see 4 shows. (Fortunarely for me American psycho has a Sunday night show the weekend I'm going.)

Personally, I loved School of Rock!! They offer rush tickets if you want to try to get cheaper tickets :)

I also think SoR is skip-able. It was nice but not overwhelming. Haven't seen Fiddler yet, but heard good things about this productions.

What about Tuck Everlasting? That will have just started previews, and I think there are discounts out there (although I haven't looked in detail).

I would also throw Daddy Long Legs into the mix if you would consider Off-Broadway. It's just beautiful, and discount tickets are $40.

Also, 1776 is running at City Center Encores that very weekend (March 30 to April 3), and they have a Sunday evening show, so that might be something to consider, or keep in mind until the announce the cast. 20% discounts usually pop a few weeks in advance.

I would want to see "Nerds", also "Color Purple" is fantastic, and definitely one of, if not THE best show on Broadway. Fiddler is also very well done.

I will look into I will look into Daddy Long Legs… Don't know anything about it. Saw Tuck Everlasting toward the end of the Atlanta run. Enjoyed it actually… Tom didn't, but I did. And saw Finding Neverland last year in New York… dumb fun. (Really dumb actually but still managed to like a bit of it.)

It is not surprising in the least that someone who likes Fiddler because it is so lovely and such a classic would hate SOR.

SOR is not a lovely classic. What it is is  a fun rock musical (you were surprised it was loud? Rock is in the title and is not generally a soft type of music) with some uber talented kids, a cute message about the power of music, and a score that literally has you clapping along at the end. It is the antithesis of Fiddler.

Only you know what suits your taste better. A lovely classic or a modern day rock musical.

Have fun on making your choices OP! And enjoy your trip to NYC!

I definitely would recommend Shuffle Along.  No previews 3/27-4/1 but there are 2 shows on Saturday 4/2.

There is a nice discount through Broadway Box available as well.

I would also recommend seeing Steven Pasquale in Roundabout's The Robber Bridegroom.

Daddy Long Legs sounds interesting... of course, the discount codes end the week before. (not meaning to sound cheap, but these kinda weekends add up, especially figuring in 3+ days of a baby & housesitter to pay for, etc.)  :-O

Theatre mania sometimes has discounts.

for what it's worth, I've been thinking about Fiddler since I saw it two weeks ago. It is a can't miss.

I love whenever Daddy Long Legs is suggested because it's so high up on my shortlist! And I would easily recommend it over some Broadway shows. They might release another discount code in a few weeks that might extend to when you are here. If not, you can still get full price ~$60 tix in the mezzanine (mezz is only 3 rows). I've sat there and it's a good view, since the Davenport is a teeny tiny intimate theater.

1776 is probably also a good choice (I've already got my tix!) because Encores! does really well-produced quality shows. Considering how short they ]run, I've been impressed.

I'm super fond of SoR the movie and I love classic musicals, so I dunno how I would feel about Fiddler vs. SoR since I haven't seen either. But I hope I get to see both.

[B'way 2017-2018] The Great Comet, BoM (3rd x), Significant Other, Cats, The Price, Sunset Boulevard, SoR (2nd x), Oslo, Hello Dolly(x2), Miss Saigon, Groundhog Day, 1984, Bandstand, Anastasia, Charlie & TCF, Once on This Island, Phantom, The Band's Visit, Rocktopia, Escape to Margaritaville, Children Of A Lesser God, My Fair Lady, Kinky Boots (2nd x), Beautiful, Angels In America, Harry Potter, Gettin the Band Back Together, Springsteen, Dear Evan Hansen

If you had to pick two shows from Nerds, Waitress and American Psycho, which two would you choose?

If you're asking me, then Waitress and AP for sure. Can't find much info on Nerds (the site is just a coming-soon kinda thing with a link to order tix) and $150 for a musical about Gates/Jobs doesn't interest me much (despite being a marginally techie Mac fan.) Their stories have been done to death in books, movies, etc. IMHO. I might add DaddyLL as a Sunday eve option. So, Psycho on Fri eve, Fiddler Sat day, SLM Sat eve, Waitress Sun day and DLL on Sun eve. (Will likely get tix to most this weekend; don't like to leave much to chance.)

Exactly. It's one of my top recommendations right now because I just loved it SO much. It saw a LOT of theater last year (living in NY atm) and it easily made my Top 5 list of the whole year. It' just such a beautiful story, absolutely gorgeous music that I can't get out of my head, and I like how intimate of an experience it is. Currently trying to figure out when to go back.

But discounts will likely be extended, and the show being off-Broadway there's really no need to buy those tickets long in advance. My friend and I bought them day-off even during the holidays and it wasn't an issue.

Came across a discount code for Waitress and thought of this thread. The code ART1 should work for your dates.

I absolutely loved School of Rock, unfortunately the discounts are very few and the rush is very hard to get, so I wouldn't take the risk. The show is basically selling out. Fiddler I'd skip. I also really enjoyed On Your Feet.

Thanks! Seems to work, but there are no decent seats left for the 4/2 matinee. Guess I waited too long. Early April multi-show trip (I know, I know...) So, we have "American Psycho" lined up for Friday night, "The Crucible" for Saturday matinee, "She Loves Me " for Saturday night, and "Fiddler" for Sunday matinee. Nothing yet for Sunday night, but "Daddy Long Legs" is in the running. Also, we KEEP meaning to check out "Sleep No More" (despite wildly mixed reviews), so that might take the last slot. Early April multi-show trip (I know, I know...) Thanks all for the feedback!

Don't miss School of Rock. Sleep No More is not necessarily theatre, I thank the lord I didn't pay for my ticket to that crap. Terrible.

If you're looking for Broadway, Something Rotten is great! So fun, especially if you see a lot of theatre. If you're into Off-Broadway I saw Ruthless, which was fun, but I LOVED Daddy Long Legs! The story, and the music too, is so beautiful! Definitely a show not to miss. I think they do rush, or you can try a site called Your Broadway Genius...they sometimes have Broadway shows too!
