Just wondering if anyone has done this, and is it worth it?

Took this tour about a year ago. I planned it for an afternoon when I was going to the performance that night (La Boheme) and I loved it. (It was neat to see the costumes hanging in Angela Georghiu's dressing room, and to see her wearing them later that night.) For $20? Yes, I recommend it.

My husband and I did the Met tour a few years ago and found it enjoyable and enlightening. You get to see a lot of places most people don't--dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, scenic and costume shops. You get to walk around on the stage and see where all the sets for the operas in rotation are kept in the stage area. You get a sense of how big the opera house and company are and learn a lot about how it all works. You may even get a glimpse of a star or two--the soprano Deborah Voigt walked past us in the hall as she was there for rehearsals! I recommend the tour for any opera or theatre lover, so go if you get the chance!

Thanks for making this post - I didn't know these tours were offered and they sound lovely.

Lincoln Center has a tour also. If you haven't done that, you might find it interesting as well. My husband and I did that one too and the highlight for me was watching the New York Philharmonic in rehearsal for a few minutes.

Yes the Met is at Lincoln Center.   As one who has done both tours, I cannot recommend the Met tour enough.  It  truly gets you backstage to see the inner workings of a theater like no other tour I know of in NYC.
