Do you write clickbait for a living and just couldn't break the habit?
(The answer may surprise you!)

"Hahaha to be honest I hate click bait and will probably change the title once I figure out how to
Who cares?! These shows will continue to be open for as long as the tourists keep coming. And week in and week out Wicked makes $1MM+ one of the consistent top 5 moneymakers...who needs stunt casting?? As for Phantom they make enough during the summer to make up for weak sales the rest of the year. Although I do wish there will be a new Phantom soon to replace the current one!
The behemoth shows, more than anything, create new audiences who will go on to support and enjoy more sophisticated stuff.
In a few more years Moms who once fell in love with Wicked will begin bringing their daughters. That combined every year there is a new audience of awkward Tween girls and Gay boys will secure butts in seats for years to come.
I think its a great show for women. Many women have a supporting role or a sterotypical roll . A show that does neither like wicked is a beautiful thing.

I'm sure some of them are awkward adult women and gay men.
Shows close because they cannot attract an audience and make money....
Wicked, Phantom, Book of Mormon, and Lion King are all going to be running a decade from now
Hamilton and Alladin may have that kind of longevity too among currently running shows....
good to great shows will come along over the next ten years that have broad, popular appeal and have very long runs
great shows will come along over the next ten years that have a more niche appeal, they will run 6 mos to a few years depending on how they catch on, and make way for the next new group of great shows
Most shows unfortunately over each season, will not be very good, will not last long and lose lots of money (one producer told me 80% of shows that make it to broadway never make it to profitability)
If the current producers, writers and composers magically start creating an avalanche of insanely good musicals, im sure they will find places to host them
I enjoy both shows a lot, and will see both again in the future
I don't think I'm awkward, gay, a tween or a woman
(but im willing to learn... is there a camp or training I can go to?)

But this year those Moms will say "Hello!" to Waitress!

No one has ever spoken truer words before
It sucks that Wicked is in one of the most comfortable theaters and it might be a decade until I get to enjoy those seats again.

I think Wicked and Phantom both help awkward people, including nerdy teens. Wicked sets up better role models, but Phantom attracts those who sympathize with misfits. Neither show is shallow.

Neither of them had any tangible effect on the box effect: the show sold out with them there, and it sells out without them. I doubt anyone said, "I wanna go see that Nicole Parker musical where she plays the green witch."
Also, neither was advertised or featured anymore or less than any other Elphaba.
