There is no doubt that next years Tony for best musical will be a one horse race and I don't need to tell you what show that is.

But how many Tonys do you think it will bag in the end? Is it possible for this to beat The Producers record haul of 12 a few years back? Or is not possible?

Right now, I would say its weakest points are in the performance categories, where there are too many current unknowns to properly assess its odds.

Hamilton will win all of the Tonys. Even best revival and others it's not nominated for.

I don't think it'll win that many. In my mind, set design, costumes, book, lead actor, and lead actress all have very fair shots at going to other shows even this early in the season. Everything else could conceivably go to HAMILTON if it maintains its momentum through the end of the season.

We should also point out that Hamilton won't be competing at next year's Outer Critics Circle nor Drama Desk Awards since it already competed at both this year.

I think what should be interesting to see is if any upcoming show could possibly give Hamilton a run for its money.

I think it is likely to win quite a few. I actually think the supporting categories might go elsewhere due to the 2-3 Hamilton actors likely to be nominated splitting the votes.

Yes, that's why this thread is specifically discussing the Tony awards.

Clearly it's going to win musical and direction.

Other than that I don't think anything is a foregone conclusion.

Clyde, that's absurd.

It'll probably just get 96,000.

Realistically speaking, I think it will definitely win:

Best Musical

Best Score

Best Book

Best Direction

Best Choreography

It could also very well win:

Orchestrations

Scenic

Lights

Costumes

The acting awards are a tougher call, but I think Odom Jr. will be a likely winner regardless of his category (not a sure winner, but likely). If he gets put in leading, I think Diggs has a decent chance at featured. I also think Goldsberry has a good shot at Featured, but it'll still be competitive. As much as I like Phillipa Soo, I think she has almost 0% of winning against that tough competition.

So I'd say it will win 5 minimum, 13 maximum, and probably somewhere between 8-10, mostly depending on acting and design categories.

How much tighter is Odom's performance than at the Public that he lost to Borle at the other awards? Borle is the best thing about SR but it's not even in the same league... so why do you think he lost?

Re: Arden

Spring Awakening will be long closed by Tony time. The Tonys are very much an out of sight, out of mind awards body.

I think Hamilton will sweep book, score, musical, direction (I think Arden deserves it, but it will be closed: Out of sight, out of mind), choreography, lighting, set, costume, orchestrations, and actor (Leslie Odom, Jr.-he belongs in leading and I think he's going to win. IMO, he's giving the best performance there.)

There are two other awards it COULD get I think, but the categories might be tougher:

Featured Actor: Daveed Diggs

Featured Actress: Renee Elise Goldsberry

The thing with featured actress is that there will be ladies from The Color Purple in there (Jennifer Hudson is probably big competition). There will also be Jane Krakowski from She Loves Me. That category is by no means a cake walk for Goldsberry (who won't be eligible for any pre-Tony awards this season).

Featured Actor has George Takei plus there could be other Hamilton nominees there.

I suspect Odom will take it and think Diggs and Goldsberry are in the running.

"But how many Tonys do you think it will bag in the end?"

As many as they can manage to give it.

"Is it possible for this to beat The Producers record haul of 12 a few years back? Or is not possible?"

It's possible, all right. After all, it's acknowledged as the greatest musical EVER. And the greatest musical EVER should surely win the greatest number of Tony Awards ever, right?

Thoughts on Jonathan Groff getting a featured actor nod?

Mr Groff has two main songs . He is very good if not amazing in those songs. And could get nominated . But how big the role is will determine this partly.

It's gonna sweep so hard it'll take Best Revival of a Play and Best Regional Theatre along with it and blindside everyone.

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott
