Why Does Michael Riedel hate "Hamilton"? |

Because...
He's a frustrated wanna-be actor, writer, director, theater critic who had to settle for the unenviable position of being a Broadway gossip monger/ass kisser who is clearly jealous of the success and accolades Lin-Manuel Miranda is receiving. He wants to diminish and reduce it's impact with his mindless gibberish. The only problem is, no one is really listening.

Personally, I think he’s simply trying to use “Hamilton’s” popularity for his own purposes. It’s the biggest thing in town right now, so if he writes about it – especially “controversial opinions” about it – people are more likely to read his column.
He's probably still pressed after Lin shaded him in that In The Heights Bet On It parody from a while ago. Around 1:25 http://youtu.be/ep0tpRqaZ4Y
He's doing the same thing Donald Trump is...trying to be controversial.
"In Oz, the verb is douchifizzation." PRS
He probably likes the show but just doesn't like how much attention it's getting. Especially if he doesn't think it lives up to the hype. I can't wait til other big shows open throughout the season and see how everything plays out

Michael Riedel is always wrong about everything.
Riedel is annoyed that his picture has been replaced with Trump's next to the definition of "bloviate", and he's working on having that fixed.
Nothing against the show. But I agree with him. The puff pieces and PR for Hamilton have gotten so obnoxious. I am hoping some other show comes out of the blue and proves a even bigger hit. If anything to keep things a little more humble.

Well actually, you are.
I thought it was a really interesting show, but of course undeserving of the ridiculous amount of hype it's been receiving. Nothing could deserve that much hype.
Every few years, the Blob needs to glom on to the new relevant, the "best, first, finest, latest," and they have to talk about how it's unprecedented - which of course makes them feel great about themselves for being so hip and au courant and insightful for recognizing this new "ultimate."
It happened with Hair, Rent, Spring Awakening, American Idiot. It'll happen again in 3-5 years with another pop masterpiece.
Personally, I'm all for resisting the urge to be the publicist's tool; I rarely trust anyone who speaks in superlatives.
He's still talking about Hamilton, which sort of negates the whole thing, as opposed to ignoring the show.
So love it or hate it, it's still the topic of conversation.
I don't think the Blob gloms, rather, the Blob is simply attracted to outstanding theater.
Hamilton looks good and all, but the music I've heard from Waitress sounds pretty spectacular. Maybe Hamilton should watch out.
As for Riedel, didn't he hate Fun Home too? He sounds like he's trying to be a theatrical hipster. Are those shows too "mainstream" for him?

Michael Riedel only mentioned once that he thought the show was overrated. In regards to Fun Home, he never said he didn't like it, he only predicted that An American in Paris would win the Tony for Best Musical as it would have the road vote right behind it. But the harder sell Fun Home ended up winning, making it much more marketable.

To be fair, I'm already feeling the PR fatigue from WAITRESS. First there was all the hoopla over the casting announcement, then there's an update a minute with pictures of them in rehearsal, and now Playbill.com has published a non-story with the "first look at the set"--which amounts to nothing besides a photo of the show's curtain and a food prep cart. I'm excited to see the show and all, I just wish they'd cool it with the attempts at press.
