Since we've collectively decided that he's only allowed to do musicals now, what roles would you like to see him do?

Carl-Magnus in A Little Night Music?

Let's throw him in to the deep end and see what he can do with either Charlie or Franklin in "Merrily"

You think, what do you want? You think, make a decision...

I think he could do Hedwig.

He'd have to shave if he did Hedwig and that is completely unacceptable.

I LOVE the MERRILY idea!

Or Giorgio in 'Passion'.

I could easily believe someone could sicken and die for love of Jake.

I would know how Fosca feels.

Wow... Carl-Magnus, Merrily, and Giorgio are actually great choices. Doubt it would ever happen though.

I'd love to see him in a great, classic musical theatre role (which, as much as I love PASSION, Giorgio just isn't that). I'm not sure if he can handle the musical complexity of the part, but I'd love to see him tackle Georges Seurat in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE...and he can keep that hot beard.

And I know it's overdone but he'd be fantastic as Nathan in GUYS & DOLLS.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

If that SUNDAY movie ever happens, I'm sure he'd be cast quickly!

He's probably going to get an endless amount of stage musical offers now.

I wonder how he'd be as Bobby...

While he may have an adequate voice for one or two show concerts, it remains to be seen whether he has the voice for eight shows a week. Given his busy film career, he'd probably look at a musical with a limited run....or an established/long running show that wouldn't mind having him for 8 weeks or so.  Hmmm?

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

As much as I love Benjamin Walker, he should replace him as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. So What Musicals Should Jake Gyllenhaal Do?

I love the idea of him as many of the Sondheim leading men named. The idea of George in Sunday really is working for me.

They could make the cast of the rumored My Fair Lady revival over-the-top star studded with Jake as Freddy to go along with Colin Firth.

I read this elsewhere, but what about Anthony Perkins' role in an Encores revival of Frank Loesser's Greenwillow?

So now I guess we're all officially sad he dropped out of Into the Woods?

I think he would be terrific as Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees! Remember that movie remake that was supposed to be happening recently? He might be a good Brad in Rocky Horror as well.

He was to play Cinderella's Prince and Chris Pine was to play Rapunzel's. When Jake Gyllenhaal left due to a scheduling conflict (I believe with the film Nightcrawler), Chris was moved up and they hired Billy Magnusson to replace him.

Definitely agree with whomever suggested Bobby in COMPANY.  If only there were a production right now... he's the perfect age for the role.  I'd love to see Jake Gyllenhaal tackle that material.

I would love to see him take a stab at Bobby (whatever happened to that gay Company? Did anything come of that reading?) or maybe Guido Contini. I would see him do Floyd Collins, as well. In addition to the previously mentioned roles, of course.
