I'll be in NYC on a Monday night and 39 Steps one of the few choices.  I heard it's fun.  Is it worth catching?  Thanks!

Most definitely. Entertaining in every aspect. Great time at the theater.

Did this show not get a TONY Nomination and Olivier Award  Widespread Critical Acclaim and is a NYT pick http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/14/theater/review-39-steps-frenetic-thriller-spoof-rises-again.html?_r=0. Which reminds me to see Off Broadway as well as Broadway.

I saw the final dress rehearsal of this current production and the cast was in great form then.  I can only imagine that they've only gotten better as they've found their footing in front of real audiences (a cast member told me that we were the first time they had had any kind of audience other than the creative team at that point).

In a word -- no.  Rent the Hitchcock classic instead.

Absolutely catch it in NYC, especially on a Monday night when so many other things are dark. The W Hotel across the street is a great place for a night cap after the show, you'll be out by 9pm since it's a 7pm curtain.

Haven't seen this new mounting of it, but saw the original in London (2007) and frankly found it boring and very over-hyped. I seem to be in the minority though.

I'll add that I'm easily bored, and I'm not a theater geek. I can't comment on the UK version, but in NY, after the first time seeing 39 Steps, I loved it and as I said, never got tired of it after at least 20 times working in it. I could see it another 20 times, it was so not boring.

39 steps is very entertaining. The staging is great and I had a blast watching it.

if you download the TodayTix app you can find cheap tickets for it on there. Anything is worth seeing if you can get a deal on tickets. Plus if you use code RSDSI at checkout you can get $20 off your first purchase

I personally was bored and found the comedy to be of the stupidest sort and almost laughed because of how bad it was. This was my worst theatre experience but much of the audience was laughing but i just couldn't take it seriously or get into the story.

^ It was camp, not to be taken seriously at all.

I saw the original in London, then again in New York. Loved it both times.

One word -- yes. Especially if you've never seen it before. There are of course many different forms of comedy, and not everyone enjoys every kind, so it doesn't surprise me that there's a number of people to whom the comedy did not appeal. However, with so many shows dark on Monday and so many discount options, I'd take the 'risk' (as we do with EVERY show we purchase tickets to) and go check it out. Let us know what you think!

Just a peace of my mind.

sowren1020 and friends…the Irvington restaurant in the W across the street has a great deal - show your ticket (or your 39 Steps red nose) before or after the show and get a free glass of sparkling wine with any app or dessert.

The food is great (burger…fries…anything with porchetta…roasted cauliflower/kale flatbread!) and it's a very cool place - owned by Rande Gerber (Whisky Bar, etc.)
