ACT 1 proudly announces auditions for its final production of the 2014/2015 season, Bert V. Royal's "Dog Sees God".

Auditions will be Friday, April 24th (6-8pm) and Sunday, April 26th (5-8pm) at Tulip Street United Methodist Church, 522 Russell Street (please use the side entrance on 6th).

Synopsis: When CB's dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Headshots and résumés helpful, but not required. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition, and all levels of experience are accepted. Characters available:

* CB—questions meaning, the afterlife, and his sexuality after the death of his dog. He is still our moral center, an everyman, but is less predictable now. (Helpful to play piano)
* Van—Now a pothead who smoked his own blanket. Still a bit of a philosopher. He wants to get in CB's sister's pants, or pretty much anyone's. (Play an instrument [bongos, harmonica?], breakdancing possibly)
* Matt—now a pathological germaphobe whose dirtiness has been internalized. He is CB's best friend, a football player, very attractive, and a sexually-obsessed, homophobic meathead. (On this last, he objects too much.) He has a really violent, bullying streak. Physically intimidating.
* Beethoven—now an outcast after being sexually abused by his father. His only place of refuge is in the school practice room. He begins to wrestle with issues of sexuality and “outness.” (Pianist preferred.) Preferably a petite guy.
* Tricia—A self-declared popular, pretty, party girl. She still dominates her sidekick, Marcy. She's a “mean girl” and is obsessed with weight.
* Marcy—Not much has changed (even her name). Ok, she is a party-girl now too, and obsessed with Matt. She tries way too hard.
* Van's Sister—Still gives advice, but now from inside an institution where she resides because she set the Red-Haired Girl's hair on fire. She is only in two scenes, but one of those is an epic monologue. Must be a tour-de-force.
* CB's Sister—constantly experimenting with philosophies and looks. After a week as a Baptist, she goes goth, gangsta-bitch, and hippie. She now has the hots for Beethoven and has taken up performance art. Angsty teenager.

Though the characters are all in high school, they might be played by high school, college, or adult actors—though all actors will need to be from the same age range. Please note: actors under 18 will not be permitted to audition due to subject matter.

Show dates will be June 5-13, 2015 at the Darkhorse Theater.
