I'm debating on attempting this... Catch Fun Home on a Friday night, it starts at 8, and supposedly runs an hour and a half with no intermission. So, that would put me getting out at 9:30, and Hedwig starts at 10. Of course, this is considering there are no late starts at the Fun Home... Thoughts? Can it be done, or is it too close of a call?
If you don't get out of Fun Home five minutes past 9:30pm, you should be fine. Because of the atmosphere of Hedwig, it's not a big deal if you happen to get there a little late.
"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." Thomas, Venus in Fur
Fun Home runs 1:40....at least that's what the usher keeps repeating as you go downstairs. It also, like most b'way shows, does not start at 8.
By the time you get out of the theater, you will have about 10 minutes to get to Hedwig. It can be done.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

There is lots of talk about this on the Fun Home preview board.

When I saw Fun Home the other night we started 8-10 minutes late. I'd stray away from attempting these 2 if you're going to see FH in previews. When the show's actually open, it's more likely they'll start close to the curtain time.
Last Saturday's 8PM performance of FUN HOME didn't get out until 9:45 or so, just for context. Not to advocate tardiness, but HEDWIG never starts on time, though.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
If i were looking at do a 2 show night with Hedwig, Fun Home would most certainly not be my first choice. Both shows are very intellectual/thought provoking. Thus seeing them back to back will not give you enough time to process what you just saw, and will likley ruin your experience with both shows.
In my opinion if I were trying to do a two-musical night I would see it get a drink and see It Shoulda Been You,which will loosen you up enough to experience Hedwig.
Sorry to disagree, bdn. I think both are great choices and I see no reason they can't do both so long as they can scoot over to 6th Ave. (I actually think seeing them together is kind of neat.)
Take Robbie2's directions seriously. Spare yourself the agony of weaving your way down through busy Times Square. From Circle in the Square on 50th, go east all the way to 6th Ave (aka Avenue of the Americas), and then down to 44th. Belasco is on the corner (more or less) of 6th and 44th. Exiting from Circle in the Square is quick and easy. You'll be fine.
Oh good lord. I saw The Visit and FH on the same day (granted, with more time between) and I absorbed them both just fine.

I was at Fun Home a few nights ago and we ended at 9:50. Add another 5 minutes at least to get out of the theater..so be prepared to HUSTLE...Hopefully Hedwig will start a bit late.
It is a hike! I saw Lady Day at Circle in the Square the first time I saw Hedwig. Actually, it was the very first preview at the Belasco. I digress... We weren't in a rush. We saw the matinee and weren't seeing Hedwig till the evening, but I remember thinking, we would have to sprint if we were seeing them closer together. If you're in good shape, go for it!
Could someone who's been to Fun Home in the past few days provide an update on the running time? I'm considering making this same trek (Fun Home to Hedwig), and I want to make sure the show hasn't run longer than 1 hour, 40 minutes recently before I buy my tickets.
BROADWAY: The Cripple of Inishmaan, This is Our Youth, If/Then, Hedwig and the Angry Inch (x3), Cabaret (x2), The Real Thing, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Chicago, Les Miserables (x2) Disgraced, Finding Neverland, On the Twentieth Century, Wolf Hall Part I, On the Town, Fun Home; TOURING: Jekyll and Hyde, The Book of Mormon; LOCAL: The Twilight Zone, Anne Boleyn, Death and the Maiden, The Lying Kind, Chorus Line, Stupid F**king Bird
the show is, indeed, 1:40. It took me nearly ten minutes to get to the street from my seat in the 400 section.
Also worth noting the cast has access to other exits from the theatre that let them bypass the stage door and foot traffic leaving Circle and depositing them almost directly a block away, so not the best way to gauge.
I'm going to risk it. I know Hedwig always starts ~5 minutes late, so as long as Fun Home isn't extremely late in getting out, I should have time to get to the Belasco. I purposefully booked a seat somewhat near the aisle so that I can get out quickly. I'll just have to be somewhat heartless in getting to the exit after curtain call.
I also noticed they have a policy where all bags are checked, so I'll need to stuff my bus tickets in a shirt pocket or something that day or something instead of bringing a bag. The extra 5 minutes to pick up a checked bag would make me late for sure.
It's worth it to see JCM, though.

I did this tonight (successfully)...definitely possible, but you have to walk fast! Fun Home curtain call started at 9:48, and I had my foot on the pavement at 9:51, walked down 50th to 6th, then walked down 6th to 44th. Got to the Belasco at 9:58 (7 minute power walk) and got to my seat about a minute later. The show started at about 10:03.
So, there really isn't much time to mess around, and you have to make sure you walk fast, but it's certainly doable (and totally worth it!!)
