What's the rush? The fall isn't exactly the most ideal time to open a show cold. Perhaps they're anticipating the opening of a smaller-sized house.

If they change the title to "The Honeymooners in Vegas" they'll never close.

As for theaters, stay away from the Nederlander!

Add to that theater, put the Simon on the list. Gigi is up for a ton of dates on tdf and it has not even opened yet. The last 4 big musicals there flopped one after the other. At least the Nederlander had Newsies.

UGH... is anyone remotely interested in this? Seems so dated. Most people, unless they are our grandparents will not have that much interest in The Honeymooners.

Almost 60 years after they were recorded, the classic 39 episodes are still being aired

To you they may seem dated. To others it seems a natural. It will have to overcome the memory of the original cast and it will have to be good.

I did not renew my subscription to Goodspeed as I had no desire to see this show. I am therefore glad that it will not be playing there. I can not imagine paying Broadway prices for this.

To each his own

Truth be told, I cannot see paying what is being charged for anything on Broadway.

Having seen the workshop, THE HONEYMOONERS is a "commodity musical" in every sense of the word. It plays like an extended musicalized episode of the television show that it's based on. The score is mediocre at best and the book is mildly amusing though predictable. Unfortunately, audiences will be left scratching their heads as to why this property needed a musical adaptation. The director, choreographer, and cast assembled for the workshop all deserve better. Their talent is undeniable and shines through even in this schlocky property. You just wish everyone involved had been putting together a superior musical.

All I want to know is if Megan Hilty will transfer with it. ALL I WANT TO KNOW.

More often than not I feel like I hear many people on these boards talking about the lack of changes between out of town tryouts and the final Broadway product. I know that Something Rotten canceled its out of town tryout and now this show - how common is it for shows to cancel out of town tryouts?

I disagree with JoeyEvans1206. I also saw the Workshop last fall and really liked the show. I'm a Pete Mills fan and I thought the lyrics were very clever and the songs had great hooks. The book was funny, there were some unexpected twists and a lot of heart. The performers were terrific. I tagged along with a potential investor who believes The Honeymooners is a big brand, and for better or worse, Broadway musicals have become just that. He reminded me that the series is referenced all the time in the media and the reruns never seem to go away.

This TV show may have been the best sitcom ever. Hope they do it justice.

Is the Jackie Gleason character still going to threaten Alice with physical violence?

Any updates on this? I think the cast they had for the workshop/reading was stellar! It seems odd that all of the articles were quoting producers saying "It's ready for Broadway", yet no dates or broadway house has been announced. As soon as Something Rotten scraped it's tryout, they had a house and immediately announced the show would open this season. I could see this doing EXTREMELY well in New York City. I've been listening to a naughty audio and find the show has a lot of potential.

I haven't heard anything specific about the show, but I would see Hank Azaria in anything. Same goes for McGrath and Kritzer. Wonder if the reason they bypassed Goodspeed has anything to do with Azaria?

Oh, please with the threatened violence.  He never meant it, and more importantly, SHE knew he never meant it.  I say this kind of thing all the time.  There is no line crossed, no safety concerns.
