I'm thinking of trying the cancellation line tomorrow.  Any one else going solo tomorrow that would like to share the waiting in line?  let me know.

@IamMBB, that was me in the cancellation line with you (from L.A. going home the next day and who passed on the premium tickets).  We had tickets to see the show Saturday night but when cancelled by the storm we made the decision to try the cancellation line.  I got there at 6 a.m., and was 3rd in line but the two ladies before me were from a large group of organized resellers who were buying large blocks for future dates, there ended up being about 25 people from the same group behind us.  I agree that 6 a.m. was too early, the next folks for cancellation tickets didn't get there till about 9 a.m.  Once I passed on the premium tickets (I dont remember what time that was), it wasn't long before they came out and offered $179 tickets.  This was about 12:15, so 6 hours in line.  We got the front row, the usual $10 lottery tickets and it was fantastic!  Worth every minute in line and I would do it again (and probably will) in a heartbeat next time we are in town.  So glad were were able to see it and it was a thrill to meet the actors after, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, in the line outside afterward.

Hi! I'm so glad that you lucked out, I'm hoping to make the pilgrimage soon (in the middle of February, natch) and I was curious (though this may be obvious)--where exactly do you sit? I don't want to sit down in the wrong spot and lose my potential place in line!

I sat behind the two women who were there before me but if I had been the first, I would have just sat as close to the door leading to the box office as I could.  Once the box office opened, they directed me to a different area to wait for cancellations.  Everyone is nice doing this, you wont have a problem line wise.

We are line-sitters. If you need a line-sitter, contact us at 323-206-6921 to book.  There is no problem with swapping out as long as it's a 1: 1 swap.  Of course no one wants to be further back in the line as a result of any additional people joining a line in front of them.

Also, our rates are better than either Task Rabbit or any other line-sitting company in  NYC.

This is why I am glad I have my clients, No ads, no last minute crap. I know weeks ahead what my clients need and want. Dogs will be walked, cats will be fed, tickets to "The Show" will happen, Cronuts will be delivered. And It's all for a monthly fee. Client list full....... Cancelations rare, WAITING list LOOONNNGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!    DON'T ASK!!!!!!!!

Attempted the cancellation line this morning.  I arrived at 6:30ish and was 10th in line.  the first 6 people were obvious line sitters,   By 7:00, there were 15 people.  I chatted with some nice people who were actually going to see the show if they got tickets, and then went home.  Chances were slim to none.  So for what it's worth, 6:00 am may be too late....especially on a weekend.

Oh, I haven't been on Twitter for awhile but last I heard was no lottery, sorry if I'm wrong - glad to see the situation worked out for you! Have fun!!!

eta/ looks like the lottery is up so 10th might be too far back unless you are willing to wait until 8pm

No hostility.  Just frustration.  And just to warn people that getting there at 7:00am isn't likely to get you at the front of the line anymore.

getting there at 7 is plenty early, just not on the weekends when most people don't have to school/work... My friends have had a great deal of success on Wendsdays because it is a two show AND weekday

If you are facing the theater, the line starts on the left side of the box office doors (the side farther from Les mis). there is a little alcove just to the left of the box office doors that is out of the wind. That is where the box office people told me to wait.

Walked past the theater last night just before 10:00pm and 2 people were already camped out for today. There was a group of teens there also but it wasn't clear if they were getting in line or just hanging out.

The "obvious line sitters" were not there for the cancellation line, they were there for advanced american express ticket sales. Sad to say I'm pretty confident you would have gotten tickets if you had stayed.

Successful Cancellation Ticket Story

 

Was visiting NYC from San Diego on Wednesday January 27th. Landed at 5am in JFK and made it to theater by 8:30am. There was a line formed to the right of the theatre doors (DON’T STAND HERE) I was about 12th in line. I was freaking out that I was already too late until I realized that all of the people in front of me knew each other. They said that they worked for a company that purchases advanced ticket through the American express pre-sale for their clients. This is happening because Hamilton just opened up a new block of tickets, so all of these people here are in line to buy tickets for October / November. Turns out that because of this, only 6 people were actually ahead of me, making me 7th in line for cancellations, my dad who was also with me would be 8th in line. We only need 2 tickets, but if we both get called we can get 4 so my Mom and Sister can get in, and then return the tickets they have for Thursday to broadway.com (they bought insurance).

 

When the box office opened at 10am, they split the line and told all cancellation people to stand by the left of the Hamilton doors. They were good at making sure that we kept our places in line. However, I believe if I had lined up at 8:30am in a separate line I would have been considered 1st in line, since the others were in the wrong spot.

 

2 people ahead of me were in line for “lotto tickets” there was confusion because the day before, the lottery was cancelled due to a huge pile of snow. On Tuesday night, these people were told that there would be no lottery on Wednesday and if they got here early enough they would be sold the $10 lottery tickets in the cancellation line. Well, on Wednesday morning the huge pile of snow was magically missing, and when the doors opened they announced they would in fact have a lottery that day. The 2 people for lotto tickets left the line, making me 5th in line.

 

10:45am, person #1 was offered two tickets for the evening performance at $177 each, he accepted. (He was in a sleeping bag)

11:15am found out I won the online lottery for Matilda. I’ve already seen the show so I decide that I’m not going and if we can’t get 4 tickets my mom and sister will go to Matilda.

11:55am, persons #2, and #3 only wanted 1 ticket each and were each offered a partial view seat for the matinee, they hesitated because they had just entered the lottery, but took them anyway.

12:15pm They pushed back the cancellation line about 20 feet back to allow theatre go-ers more space.

1:15pm Mom and Sister decide to go to Matilda, so now we only need 2 tickets.

1:20pm Person #4 (two tickets), and #5 (me) get called into the box office. They ask me how many, I say 2, and they say it’s $330. Give them the credit card, and they give me the tickets! It was very fast, they didn’t tell me where the seats were beforehand but I also didn’t ask. Seats ended up being Orchestra Row J Center.

 

Later on when we are in our seats, we see 3 more people from the line get in to see the show! So total, at least 11 cancellation seats were given away by 2pm on Wednesday January 27th. The show was AWESOME, although still freezing and not dressed for the theater, it was so worth it. When we get out of the show at 5pm, I don’t recognize anyone in the cancellation line so they must have either left, or gotten tickets for the 8pm show.

Does anyone know how Wednesday matinee cancellations go? Just talked to someone about them and they said they go on Tuesday...but I think that was to dissuade me from going....

I can't imagine that the other people in line would have agreed with this logic, since they were under the same assumption as you and got there earlier than you did.

Princess, I had no desire to stay. Don't need to see any show that bad! Plus I had been at work since 8:00am in the morning. I needed a cocktail!
