For some reason nobody has posted on this thread in a while.  How has the cancellation line been lately?

But seriously, i was just wondering if anyone had any opinions or insight on what you think will happen when Broadway opens up again. Do you think that the line will go back to being crazy or if it will still be as slow as it was before the pandemic? Or will they even still have a cancellation line when this thing is over?

One one hand, i imagine the release of the film could cause people to lose interest in seeing the play live. On the other hand, i know people who formerly had no interest in the play but now love it after seeing it on Disney. I' m wondering if that will cause a whole new group of fans to come to the line.

I started waiting on line in 2018. At that time you had to get online around 9-10 AM to be in the first 10 people.  I'm a rare type that actually enjoys that and misses those days.  I enjoyed the whole experience of meeting people and hanging out for the day.  It was actually disappointing to me the last time i waited on line last year when nobody else showed up until around 3:00.

So what do you think will happen in January if/when things are back to normal?

Broadway is expected to slowly open up in April 2021, not January 2021.  Nothing is set in stone.

Oh, OK. I had heard January.  I hope they don't do away with the cancellation line.

Technically January is what has been announced, but most people agree it will much more likely be later in the spring before anything actually reopens. With that said though, no one knows. Could be January, could be April, could be October, could be 2022. Way too soon to say anything for certain.

As far as cancellations, it could really go either way. I could see a world where people cancel regularly because at the last minute they're sick or travel plans change or decide they're not comfortable going and therefore there are tons of cancellations and the lines get crazy long again. But I can also envision with capacity restrictions, virtually no one deciding to cancel once they finally get seats and therefore the line hardly exists anymore.

But one thing that seems pretty certain is that SRO won't be available, at least at first, due to capacity restrictions and how close they stand to the back row. So knowing it's cancellation or nothing may dissuade some people from getting in line as well.

April does sound more likely.

Besides unclaimed lottery tickets (will there still be a lottery?  That's another unknown), most cancellation tickets are VIP seats.  That's why they're so good (first 10 rows center section).  And that's also another reason why i hope they don't do away with the cancellation line.  I'm spoiled now having seen it 5 times from fantastic seats.  I couldn't sit in the balcony and enjoy it.

You bring up a good point about seating.  That's a cramped theater and i don't know how they'll handle seating if they still have to practice some sort of distancing.
