HAHA. I don't know, but let me tell you. If this actually makes it to Broadway I will be the first person in line. I still can't get over how beautiful that musical was.
Compared to what I saw at the Kennedy Center the other night, LITTLE DANCER was a truly engaging piece of theatre. The score, book, performances, staging and direction were all top notch. It's truly refreshing to see a new original piece of work. Whereas GIGI for me can be summed up by one of its song titles, "IT'S A BORE". I'll be amazed if it has any kind of a run. I would gladly buy a ticket to see LITTLE DANCER again if it ever makes it to Broadway.
I agree with Demitri2. I saw both Gigi and Little Dancer and thought Little Dancer was the better production in all areas. I am glad that instead of rushing this to NYC that the producers will work on it further with another out of town tryout. Hopefully it will get better with it's next showing and it will end up on Broadway eventually. Gigi, on the other hand, was a major disapointment (except the always wonderful Victoria Clark). I can't believe this is the show that's coming to Broadway.
What wonderful news. We were just talking about Littl Dancer yesterday and wondering if it was still progressing. We liked it very much at the Kennedy Center and would definitely see it again.
I think the premise behind the show is fascinating and I am a Lynn Ahrens fan, so I'd really love to hear more from this. If memory serves me, the Kennedy Center cast was very good as well.
I wonder if this cast will be in the 5th Avenue production? It would be exciting to see Robert Lindsay in a new musical!
The industry reading will star New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck (On The Town), Tony and Olivier Award winner Robert Lindsay (Me and My Girl), Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!), Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba (Prince of Broadway), Tony Award nominee Dee Hoty (Bright Star)...
I’m quite surprised to hear they’re still trying to make a go of this. And that it has so many fans on this board. I saw it in DC and found it deadly dull with an embarrassing lead performance from Peck (minus, of course, her dancing). Then again, it’s been years, so perhaps a lot of wonderful changes have been made!
So glad to see Karen Ziemba is still attached to this production. I've seen her many times over the years and never enjoyed her more than I did in this show.

absolutely a better title . I wonder what precipitated the change? Confusion with Elton's "Tiny Dancer"? But Marie is awfully generic. It's not an iconic name like Evita or even Amelie . I saw that Tiler Peck is back in the lead role after having also done it at the Kennedy Center; as are a number of the other folks from that cast.
The title “Little Dancer” was the least of the D.C. production’s problems although I agree I kept calling it Tiny Dancer. The new title is not an improvement though. From what I recall, the songs were okay if unmemorable, the book was weakest piece and the highlight was the dancing and the “reveal” at the end. It wasn’t Broadway-ready then and I am glad they’re taking their time with revising it, but I do fear that if they think that the new title is an improvement, the other revisions may not be improvements either. I am glad I saw it, mainly because it was the only time I’ve been to the Kennedy Center.
