I wonder if the show would do better on the West End?

"I wonder if the show would do better on the West End?"

Excellent point and I believe it would do better on West End.

I hope everyone is remembered at Tony time. I thought the design elements were haunting and among the best I've seen in a musical in years. The show had exactly the right look, and though it employed a unit set, it was used in myriad, ever-changing ways, creating two coup de theatre moments at the end of each act, each truly poetic. It also had fine work from Mantello, likely to be forgotten because it was so simple. I have no quibbles with anything but the book's second act. Even there, nothing that seriously altered my enjoyment or emotional take-away. This is a sad goodbye. Another one.

I was always surprised this didn't do London first. That seemed like a much better path. It wasn't my favorite night out. I was bored, but, will say there was a lot of beauty to be found in it. Still surprised it went so quickly and my heart goes out to everyone who lost their show. It's always sad, my cup of tea or not, a show closing effects several peoples lives & jobs.

I was there tonight, my second time seeing the show, and it was just as moving, if not more so, than the first time. Every actor gave it their all and time and time again I found myself getting the chills! Sting gave a wonderful speech at the end, it was quite emotional, he talk about his love for the cast and quoted the show by saying "There will never be another ship like this, another ship that I built." That really hit me and just made me realize how amazing this piece of art truly is and how lucky I am to see it on its final sail! It really deserves to be remembered at Tony time for Rachel Tucker, Fred Applegate, The Lights, The Set, and of course the music! This show really deserved more and I hope it continues to have a long life after this!

While I didn't fall in love with the show, I enjoyed a great deal. I really loved the score and enjoy the recording.

Glad I got to see it.

I really hope it gets a new life in the West End. I'd love to see it again, maybe with a few edits.

Question - while I love the recording, I really (obviously) went nuts for Sting singing his own songs when I saw him in the show and want to hear him sometimes. But for some reason I can no longer find any video from last year's Tonys when he actually performed! Why would they remove those videos and not other performances? Because that show was still running?

Sting gave a beautiful, heartfelt speech at the curtain call. Here's the text of it (barring a word or two that I couldn't make out):

I was lucky enough to be able to see the Last Ship 12 times, and both shows yesterday, and would have seen it alot more had it stayed open. Stings speech last night was very heartfelt and you could see how much this show meant to him and that it was his baby. I adored this show and it was my favorite new musical of the season!! Sting wrote an absolutely gorgeous haunting score!! It is such a shame that it didn't resonate with audiences, that they couldn't appreciate something new and fresh. It seems like Broadway audiences only want the familiar, meaning something from Disney or a show that was a movie as quite a few of the new shows coming in will attest. The cast was absoluting riveting and amazing, night after night. Rachel Tucker, Michael Esper, Fred Applegate, Collin Kelly-Sordelet, Aaron Lazer and of course Sting himself, and Jimmy Nails before him, were all extraordinary. I was especially mesmerized by Michael Esper. He gave a beautifully poignant performance night after night. He was breathtaking and it was a joy to see him in this show. I cried thru quite a bit of it. I hope when Tony time comes around that he is remembered as well as the others in the cast and Sting himself. If Sting doesn't win the Tony for this show that will really be a miscarriage of justice. I applaud them all and will miss this show so much!!

I can see regional and college theaters taking this on and having tremendous artistic success with it. I wish it nothing but many, many, many future productions.

^Regional success maybe. I doubt very many schools will do it, given the heavily male cast

Heavily male cast, maybe, but with fabulous songs for women.
