The other thread had me thinking. What are the ugliest posters created for Broadway? Obviously, Welcome to the Club is a given.

Bridges of Madison County (original red). The show looked so boring to me, and I didn't want to take a chance so I rushed instead. If they had done a better job with the marketing I might have bought a full-price ticket (and if I had time to see it again I would have). The staff looked so cringeworthy walking around in that red merchandise.

The new marketing campaign was a lot better, but far too late to help save the show.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Beautiful hasn't gotten new posters yet, and I'm not sure why. I like the new cover a lot more.

I'm gonna dredge up some from the mega-flops of the '70s. Perhaps these hideous designs contributed to their failures??

I feel the same way about Via Galactica. I think I really like the typography for the title, but that's it.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder's poster looks ugly. Its orange & gave me the impression that the show would suck... and it did. Posters do make me want to see shows sometimes... like the Gigi revival design looks amazing!

The Carrie poster is actually quite fierce, especially when you take into account that her face is made out of telepathy symbols.

They must have just gotten new posters at Beautiful. I know that the playbills have had the new design for awhile. I LOVE the new version, and really dislike the older one.

I agree that the original Carrie artwork kicks butt. As for Gentleman's Guide I hated the poster with just the hat, but I love the new one with the piano that advertises the show's Tony win.

The poster for Footloose is hideous! Looks like a 6 year old drew it!
