I got an email from Telecharge talking about the extention for It's Only a Play, and they listed Martin Short, Stockard, F. Murray, Micah and Matthew, but not Megan and Rupert. Are they staying with the show or being replaced?

The only people I was actually interested to see in this show (Lane, Mullally, and Grint) are all leaving before I get the chance to see it. I'm sure Martin Short will be great though... Wonder who the producers will get to replace these two.

Awww! I had a chance of seeing this early next year. Was really looking forward to catching Mullally. Glad Stockard is staying.

Hmmm I wonder who they will get as replacements. I would guess they are going to try to keep it "star-studded". Rupert was actually one of my personal favorites when I saw it...what young Brit could be available to take over the role?

"what young Brit could be available to take over the role?"

Is there a new rule on Broadway that British characters must be played by British actors?

No, but at least they will get the accent right!

I'm curious how much they can alter the cast and have a hit, in a show where the cast was the main attraction.

Isn't Alexander Sharp, who plays Christopher in "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" American-born? He was educated in Britain, but he's an American-and he plays a British boy very well. (Come to think of it, I think Taylor Trensch, the alternate, is also American.)

So Americans can indeed play Brits.

Alex Sharp has a British accent in real life. I chatted with him at the stage-door, and unless he's super method, his accent is not fake.

You're right-he's British (educated here-and well-traveled from what I've read). (Taylor Trensch isn't though-and I'd be curious to hear from anyone who's seen him how he does with the accent.)

January 4, 2015 as stated in the article.

I'm trying to think of a 'star studded' type actor in their 20's or even 30's that would make a great Frank, hmmm...Does anyone think Adam Driver would be a good fit? Would be nice to have him back on stage and he is a sort of name now with Girls.

It doesn't have to be a British actor, of course, I just figured they would keep in the same path they were. Obviously they could go with an American actor though.

Damn, they are replacing everyone but the person who needs to be replaced, the bland and boring Matthew Broderick.
Now living in DC. I really have to change my name on the board.

I could easily see Sarah Jessica Parker replacing Megan Mullally (for the second time, ironically). She has played that type of ditzy but earnest before.

The mention of Brooke Shields in the tv star thread - esp. the quote from a Playbill article where she mentions her interest in acting in a straight play - got me thinking she might be a pleasant (if a bit unimaginative) choice to replace Mullally. She'd have some of the star cred the production requires and I believe she's able to pull off "ditzy but earnest" as nasty_khakis termed it. While she is a bit of a standard replacement star on the boards, I'd like to see what she could bring to a straight play, especially one that seems suited to her talents. I'm not a huge fan but I'll support anyone who seems so loyal to the theatre.

As for Rupert it would be great if they could get a Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey heartthrob like Joe Dempsie or Allen Leech. I'm not sure they're exactly right for the part but they'd keep people coming. I personally would like to see someone like Domhnall Gleeson or perhaps Douglas Booth.

Oh man I bet they would shell out a big bucks to have the new duo SJP and Broderick once Broderick and Lane are split.

I also think Brooke Shields would work as Mullalley's replacement. As far as SJP replacing, the issue would be family considerations at this point, so I would doubt that is a possibility.

I'd be the first in line to see Domhnall Gleeson back on stage.

Well, SJP has been in Italy for the past month, so they're not exactly tucking their kids in at night anyway. They're children are old enough now where I think it wouldn't be a huge deal.

I've never seen Brooke Shields be funny. I can see her being...fine, though.

What about Judith Light?
